Yeah, that might be a bit much rn, sorry 'bout that.

Apologies if this is already documented somewhere on the repo and I just couldn't find it, but how would I compile this? The closest I've got is launching directly from Qt Creator, which crashes when I open a rom. Launching externally complains about dependencies and/or missing entry points therein.

That aside, really looking forward to this since I've been looking for an LM replacement for a while now.

I really need a layout. :<
To run it outside of Qt Creator, you need to make sure all the DLLs it asks for are in the same directory. This will mainly be the Qt DLLs themselves, but potentially also a few more (such as an MSVC DLL). Basically, you need to locate those and copy them to the output directory.

That being said, if the application crashes in Qt Creator, it will very likely also crash when you run it independently. I'm guessing that there's some edge cases missing in the handling of ROM files.

Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!

If it's an edge case, then it's an edge case applying to clean roms. I'm guessing it has something to do with the console message about not finding asar (even though I made sure the dll is next to the executable). Copying over the other dlls makes it complain that an entry point doesn't exist in Qt5Core.

YM sent me a pre-compiled package on Discord that works, though. And I said it there, but I'll echo it here: consider setting up CI/CD on the repo to have binaries built automatically.

Did you try the most recent version of the editor? There was a bug in Asar related to loading DLLs which I had to fix before Superstar Editor could even load anything in the first place. I'm not 100% sure if Yoshimaster already commited a version using this fix, but I'd assume so as this was already quite a while ago.

This is really awesome. I hope it becomes a viable alternative to Lunar Magic in the not-too-distant future.

You should also reach out to p4plus2 as he was also developing an open source Super Mario World editor a long time ago. I don't know if the project is on hiatus as he hasn't mentioned anything about it in a while, but it wouldn't hurt to talk to him for ideas. Hopefully he's still working on it "behind the scenes."

Also, your download link is missing a "url=" parameter. It should be:

How advanced is this so far? Can it make something on the scale of TSRP (2004)?

Almost. It doesn't have intro movement recording or layer 3 image editing yet.

the madman actually fucking did it
kudos to you, i tried making one a while ago but never really got anywhere lol
I see you're working on refactoring the code. Can the program still be compiled and used during this time?

I'm asking because I noticed you removed a large chunk of code some time ago: https://github.com/Yoshimaster96/Superstar-Editor-SMW/commit/ee11f443c766d428aa54ac37dddf65da5ef5d2c4

You can build it but it doesn't do anything yet.

I'm putting this project on hold for a while. The GitHub repo has been privated (I'll set up a new repo when/if I return, due to how the massive refactor changing a bunch of things). I'm gonna quickly finish a small thing, then write an editor for YI instead, due to how little support that game has at this time.

I'll let you all know when/if I return to this.

Thanks for letting us know. I look forward to your success in both projects!

As far as I'm aware, Golden Egg is the only publicly available Yoshi's Island editor. It was last updated more than seven years ago and isn't open source either. Hopefully this will change in the near future. #tb{:D}

I'm a also little curious: do you expect any overlap between your Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island editors? Although both games likely have very different formats, I imagine things like user interface could share a common code base.
