So, I accidentally dropped soda on my laptop, now it's keyboard is broken, and I broke it CMOS more than it was broken ._.

the OP of this thread is gonna have to take the broken laptop to the nearest computer repair shop to have it fully fixed, which may be costly.

Why I learned from a young age to avoid putting beverages of any kind on the same surface as valuable electronic equipment.
I've had a few close calls, but nothing disastrous thanks to that.

Why would you dilute it in water?

I'm not a chemist, but water is bad for electronics and the point of using isopropanol is it's used in polishing and it evaporates quickly, lifting many stains and contaminants from a surface.

You never want to use water on electronics when dealing with potential damage, IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) is perfectly safe to use, water can create rust from oxidation but IPA can not. I don't know who told you you should dilute it first but do not, even 100% IPA is safe (and preferred over the 60-70% you can normally get)

I mix the alcohol with water (70 - 30 or 80 - 20 mixture) (higher water content) for cleaning purposes and wipe with a DAMP rag.

This is considered safe for non-exposed electronic equipment like monitors, keyboards, cases, etc.

I've done it for years on my electronics without damage.

Well yes for external non electronic equipment or equipment that you wouldn't come into contact with the circuity since IPA won't melt plastics but it can dissolve paint.
I was referring to electronics themselves which if you spilled soda on a laptop most are not made in a way to allow liquids to drain through and the keyboard sits directly over the motherboard.
