Super Awesome World (v.0.99)

Standard

So after discovery of this site... I thought I might share my own months of effort here... :)

Super Awesome World
------------------
Loving Mario and all that is made of it, and upon the discovery of Lunar Magic by Fusoya, I decided to make several levels of new Mario levels to spice up some of the gameplay elements. But after a few levels, I couldn’t seem to stop, and this, the project of SUPER AWESOME WORLD was born. Although it pales to other full versions, such as Asshole Mario, or Super Demo World, it has it’s own charm that I hope you, the player, will enjoy.

Super Awesome World is a slightly more difficult version of Super Mario World. The overworld is the same, but the levels are completely different. The game really doesn’t pale to asshole mario, but it does have it’s own interesting challenges and levels.

----------------

I am currently fixing up the overworld (if I can ever figure out these errors) and plan to fix the miscellaneous graphical and text errors.

I realize that it might now not look like some of the more expertly crafter, hex-edited versions of the game out there, but I felt like that would distract from the core of the game we all grew up with. We wanted to edit the levels to be better, more fun, but I felt like it should have kept to the original sprites and limitations that we had at first.
looks nice, try not making the pictures so large, also, replace the glitched goal sphere (2nd pic) with a key and keyhole if there is only 1 exit
Is it just me, or do the screenshots look a little....artsy?

Anyways, it looks nice so far. Make sure you change the goal sphere in the second screenshot. Try changing the graphics so it looks correct.

EDIT: Upon watching the video, I realize that some levels look like edits of the original. Make sure you delete a level completely before editing it. Other than that, it looks nice! Doesn't look horrible like some other hard hacks, and it seems you keep the difficulty at a reasonable level.
It looks pretty nice for a vanilla hack, and Foursword, i think it ended up looking "artsy" because of how large the pictures are. In the future, try to make them smaller. I like the reference to that one video (its name escapes me) but its quite good overall.

I'm just thankful it isn't that much Kaizo-Like, and the quality is pretty good (well i mean like, no floating munchers, glitched graphics, save for that one goal sphere) I really hate those sorts of hacks. It does look very difficult though...
The goal sphere at the second is intended like so.

Well I am an artist, so it tends to be a little artistic.

Some parts of the level have been kept solid, such as Choco Island 2, or the Special World End, somewhat out of laziness and out of ideas.

The difficulty is hard in some areas, but then you have some of those 'levels that play themselves' littered about in there. Some puzzles, some leaps of faith, and just odd things. Overall it's a good hack, imho.

I appreciate the constructive criticisms and suggestions :D

That's not good. Try new things, like experimenting with layer 2 and stuff.

Some leaps of faith.

That's not too good either. Use coins to guide the player, or message boxes to tell him/her that there will be blind jumps.
There are hints telling the player that there are safety nets so to speak.

As for the experimentation, this whole hack was based on self teaching. I had no idea of the more complex aspect of editing and overrides that lunar had. I was just become of this website recently as I tried to improve on my overworld editing.
Mind If I LP this on my youtube channel? I just got a mic today.

Sure, go ahead. Any added publicity is nice.
I have lots of projects going on now, and school, but send It to me and I'll get it in.

At this point, it looks like a generic SMW hack. That's not always bad, but you used Wiggler's head as a goal sphere. NO! You seem to have a firm understanding of Lunar Magic, so I can only hope to see increasingly better work from you.
Heres some advice:

You got the Text Box Wrong-

-No Items
-Mario Only

FINAL DESTINATION

Now it sounds better AND you have Mario BEFORE Only. You have to get your internet Memes RIGHT if you want to use them at all!

heh. But now, seriously. It looks like you have some creative Design on your hands. It looks like a challenge. BUT its not Kaizo Hard.... Its like "It feels Fun" Kind of hard.
I never really felt like it was a generic SMW hack... but damn.

Ah well, thanks for the input anyway. I really doubt I would ever make another hack, due to how much effort I put in this one and the lack of design I have in my mind now.
inserting graphics/music/blocks isn't that difficult. it looks pretty good.

don't despair about people bitching you out. they just don't "get" wiggler head.
It looks pretty plain, but I see a lot of potential for future hacks once you get into the fancy shit. You could at least try making custom palettes and adding custom music to keep things interesting, though.
EDIT: Trust me, you won't stop with this one. It becomes an addiction eventually.

Mario's Nightmare Thread
Looks ok so far. I just hope the player can't get THAT many lives easily though...
