vldc who?
Hey, you forgot something, Doctor No! Here's page 2 of map16 to download (in case you use v1.2 or newer).

can there be an option to pin forum posts?
I have a Discord server as well!

The Baserom patch still works with SNESx9, so I can still build and test. Just thought you ought to know. Any suggestions for fixing this problem?

I'm moving this post to this thread because it was forwarded to the submissions thread prior to deletion.
screw my wifi lmao.
@Squirrelyman157: So you'd made your level a while ago and you're technically not the last, are you? If so, ASMagician Maks was technically the last. Or is he?

Sariel's attempt at randomly guessing authors

So this is my attempt to guess authors of the levels. I may give reasons for my pick or not, I dunno. In most cases I'll just pic a random name probably, but we'll see if i can guess someone correctly. However, this post's main intention is to keep you guys updated about the progress I make over time. Don't expect any comments, opinions or anything like that though.

Hey, so anyone who’s planning on playing the last submission (mine) should know that it is broken, because my last second fixes that I made to fix it must’ve broken other things in the process. Also, Doctor No, or anyone in charge, could you inform the judges about this so they don’t have to play a probably impossible level.
As it happens, although the level didn't seem to play out quite as I expected from the setups, I was able to clear your level, and posted some (low-quality) videos in the showoff discord channel yesterday.
So you're good on that front.
That was quite a ride! A lot of newbies have appeared and some of them gained more than some experienced kaizo people did. idol's placement is quite a surprise considering how much time we had to build a level and how solid her entry seemed.

Moving on the substance of this post, what do you think could be improved in a contest like this? Is there anything wrong with how it was handled? Should the judging squad look otherwise? Is 72 hours enough to build a solid level or should the time be extended in the future contests to give more time for polishing like it was with 72hoSPC contests?

I'd like to question the choice of judges first. All the judging squad consists of non-streamers or folks who do stream kaizo, but aren't particularly renowned. One of them is SMW Hacks Section Manager, the other is the author of SMW kaizos with Latin titles, and the latter a JUMP team member. Whilst 4 out of the 5 judges were known streamers (of which 3 are SMW kaizo experts and 1 streams difficult games in general), it doesn't mean that for following kaizo contests non-streamers should be the entirety of the jury. 1 known SMW kaizo streamer should be minimum in a kaizo contest and the amount of streamers could be extended to 2 if a bigger amount of judges is considered. The extra streamer could be an expert in difficult titles (who's not necessarily associated with SMW kaizo) or just a lesser Twitcher. For example, a judge list could look like this:
- renowned SMW kaizo streamer,
(- less-known kaizo streamer/Difficult game expert if 4 instead of 3 members appear,)
- JUMP Team member,
- another person with kaizo experience.
This way, we have 3 (4) different points of view and each has large differences between ideas of what good kaizo should be like and fair judgement is still existent).

Considering it's harder to make a kaizo level than a standard one, 72 hours could be enough to make a kaizo level or still too little to make it close to perfect. I get that the idea of contests like this is to enforce crafting something interesting according to the contest's theme within a short amount of time, all without advance, but a lot of polish eventually gets sacrificed. Major cheese, softlocks, and unfairness of certain courses are some of the problems that could be mitigated with a lot more time to work with. This idea is similar to extension of 72hoSPC to 120 hours. I could agree to make a short surprise kaizo contest 96 hours.

Anyone open to some other questions? Is there anything you don't agree with about my view of point or is there something else you'd like to add to it? I'm not staff, but this could interest many forum members, including site staff.

I can't see the imperious need to have one kaizo streamer on the jury (the same for the JUMP team member. Just why?). There are enough people that don't stream kaizo and are also very knowledgeable of the kaizo style/community and fit the bill regarding the jury position.

Some streamers might have enjoyed levels like mine like GlitchCat7 did, but the 3 mods not. Kaizo streamers are considered authorities by some people if they're famous, and hearing nice things about their levels could be a pleasure for them. It's also to present one of several different view points. They could not only add to variety, but also you can find out what style of kaizo some people like and which the others. JUMP Team member was an example, not a necessity to have in a contest.

Di immortales!
SMWCentral dealing with things: you don't like that a judge harshly criticizes and insults submission -> we close the thread and it's over.

So we can't say anything?! I saw no one insulting or being over the top. People behaved well in this discussion. Is this website not a democracy anymore?

Oops forgot to move this one too. Yes we know you didn't like the harsh criticism. We also don't need to know that a hundred other people have the same complaint. This discussion has been had already, multiple times, both in public and in private.
