New Super Mario World 1: The Twelve Magic Orbs REMASTERED (Halfway done with World 4)

Well, after spending about two months working a bit more on this project, i finally decided to actually show more progress here, but since this i won't be actively working on this project like i did with the original hack (mainly due to irl stuff and the fact that i don't have a planned release date for this) but i will still occasionaly post something, just like i'm doing right now that i finished World 2.

As you guys already know, World 2 is the beach world and in the original hack it was... quite messy, i started working on this world back in early October 2015 (pretty much 5 years ago) a few days before i was unbanned from SMW and back then i had very little level design knowledge so most of the levels were unfairly difficult so most of the updates to the levels in this world were related to difficulty balancing and other improvements, here are them.

2-3: Moonlit Harbor

This was mostly an alright level and the main updates here is that it now has a bit more focus on the bubble flower power-up, specially because now you can use it to access higher areas that are otherwise unreachable. The music has also been updated

2-4: Flooded Fortress (formerly known as Flooded Cave)

Probably one of my favorite levels from the hack, the main change here is quite obvious as i decided to change it from a cave level where the water randomly lowers and rises to a fortress where you change the level of the water by pressing switches, similar to how it was in the demo version. And now with the newer LM updates, it's a lot easier to make this concept work.

And lastly, i moved the secret exit from 2-5 to this level because it was a pretty good level to hide secrets.

World 2-5: Urchin Reef (f.k.a. Underwater Ways)

One common issue with many of the cave, castle and underwater levels in the original hack is that due to the SMB3 status bar, many of these levels were very cramped, but now that the hack has a better status bar, this issue is fixed. Other than that the level is mostly similar to the original one and it's even better with the frog suit as it makes the gameplay more fast paced and Mario doesn't get affected by the air currents.

And as i said before, there's no more secret exit to be found here.

World 2-6: Dolphin Coast (f.k.a. Dolphin Shore)

This is mostly the same as the old one with no major changes aside from level design improvements.

World 2-7: Stormy Shore (f.k.a. Rainy Beach Ruins)

Most of the changes here were aesthetical changes as it was a fine level but wasn't very appealing to look at with these ugly layer 3 rain effects and a very dull gray-ish palette. The music has also been updated

World 2-A: Haunted Galleon (f.k.a. Blue Switch Ship)

The main change is that this level now has two exits rather than just being the blue switch level, the normal exit now is a shortcut to 2-7 while the other exit is the switch palace. Other than that the level is mostly the same. I also updated the music

2-Castle: F.L.U.D.D. Tower (f.k.a. Seaside Castle)

This level was completely redesigned but it still mantains its core as a castle level where you have to use FLUDD while still having to avoid spikes, thwomps and ball'n'chains. The main difference is that the level now has a lot more verticality, specially in the second half, when compared to the old version which was pretty much a horizontal corridor all way through.

And that's really it, now it's time for World 3.

Nice!

Especially awesome to see Flooded Cave/Fortress revamped to have water manually activated and the castle being majorly revamped in a vertical way, because I agree that FLUDD has a bit more of a flexible use vertically more than horizontally. :P
Will there be also some changes for musics?

I just remembered in yore last hack, there was an unused content. You added a dark spooky intro in the old demo.

Speaking of music, the Cursed Fountain music was added in the spooky intro. I want you to please listen to this and tell me. After the full of New Super Mario World 1: The Twelve Magic Orbs was release, the dark spooky intro for this is gone, and now it's too short. I was thinking if you could please add the dark spooky intro like in the demo into the REMASTERED version of this?

You know, I have a good memory.

There will be, here are the songs i'll use in the hack. Most of the songs are the same but with some changes, mostly replacing outdated ports or unfitting songs, as well as new songs for the levels that are going to be completely redone (6-5, 8-2, 9-1 and 11-2)

I won't bring back that intro, but i might add an intro cutscene once i learn how to use the VWF cutscene tool.

I enjoyed the original quite a bit when I played it but it was really rough around the edges. It's nice to see a creator go back to an old project, even after so long, and make some positive changes to it.
It's looking nice so far. Good job.
Huh... You took my idea for a bubble powerup.(For a Fan Game I was gonna make but ultimately gave up on.)Mine was sort of a combo of the bubble lead from Mega Man 2 and the bubbles that Yoshi blows in SMW2 YI. But enough of my crap. I honestly really wanna see how this concept will be used. Really looking forward to this!

Also did you make those F.L.U.D.D sprites or were they made by someone else?
Are you going to add new enemies/hazards/gimmicks, especially in the new levels? I suggest adding stuff from the SMM games, like the ON/OFF blocks and Snow Pokeys.

I know absolutely nothing about ASM so i didn't make the FLUDD and the powerups.

These ideas were already on the hack but yes, i'm planning on adding new ideas. As for the new levels, three levels from World 12 were completely removed to give space for a bonus world and there are two levels (6-5 and 11-2) that will be entirely redone, and two that will be replaced with contest entries (8-2 and 9-1)

As shown with some hacks, it is possible to change the font of the VWF level prompts. I think you should change the YI font in them to make them be more in line with the OW, HUD, and dialogue box fonts.

is the bonus world going to be like NSMW2's world 16?

Kinda, it will only have 3 levels that will be unlocked by collecting all star coins in each set of four worlds. These levels are replacing 12-B, 12-Castle2 and 12-S which are the only levels that were completely removed (12-B because it's just a filler level, 12-Castle 2 because Bowser's Castle is now a single level and 12-S for better post-game content). Right now i have only ideas for one of these levels which will be a castle level with rooms where you will have to use one of the power-ups, it will have three exits each one having a star coin at the end.

How many levels did you finished?

I'm working on 3-5 right now so there are about 19 levels done. World 3 souldn't take too long because it doesn't need many improvements as it was probably one of the better designed worlds.

Well, yes, that's the point of this remake. So far most of the levels are still the same with minor tweaks to make them more enjoyable and less frustrating, with the only major redesigns so far being 2-2 and 2-Castle. However as i said before there are a couple of levels that will be redone or massively changed. Some of these levels include 5-5, 6-5, 7-Castle, 8-2, 9-Castle and pretty much all of Worlds 10 and 11.

Are you gonna change the Background design in earlier levels?
Because some of them is still the same with the old ones
I think you did not answering me

If you haven't been answered yet, you can just edit your previous post. There is no need to double post.

If they look bad then yes

Please, no spam
It isn't hard because most of the levels are already done, all i really need to do is update the resources and make changes to improve the level overall and make it less frustrating
