Hello everyone, has this site ever considered instituting simple post reacts? It may cut down on the amount of short, seemingly spammy, replies that are reactions to what someone says in a thread.

might as well shut the site down and migrate to discord permanently
It's not an idea to be instantly dismissed, and I don't think you're the first person to suggest something along these lines as the idea does seem familiar.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the idea since it will reduce activity across the forums that are already lower in activity than what they used to be, due to the rise of platforms like Discord etc. They're not dead yet, though!

While I see your point that it may cut down some shorter, "reaction-like" replied - they're still words and posts which, as I say above, we'll lose due to it being easier for someone just to tap a reaction instead. I don't know about others, but seeing (albeit short) replies like "hey this is looking great!" a few times instead of a like counter would mean more to me on content I created.

But yeah, they're my personal views on the idea but it would be interesting to see if there's more support from this from users/forum mods/staff etc.
I personally think contentless, spammy posts won't stop existing, regardless of implemeting "reactions" akin to Discord. We're always patrolling the forums and taking the necessary actions whenever they happen.

On the other hand, as Tahixham said, I'd rather see people provide responses about anything I create or post instead of just providing reactions that sometimes tell me nothing. Eh, it doesn't hurt, I suppose.

Twitter

Never use discord aside from voice chatting with friends that have moved away so I couldn't attest to that myself.
But I hear that.

I'll be honest when suggesting this I hadn't thought of the fact that post counts in the forum were already low to begin with and didn't really NEED to be reduced.

But thank you Tahixham and Katerpie for humoring me!

It would be fun for news posts, since comments are gone.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Might be a good way to assess community opinion in absence of the comments?

Agreed for this and only this. Elsewhere, it just detracts from real feedback and participation. I never liked "reacts" since people get too used to that easier option and often stop engaging. The most important part, the reasoning behind a feeling and any suggestion or other related meaningful thoughts, gets left out completely.

Just look above you...
If it's something that can be stopped, then just try to stop it!

I agree with this condition.

I also agree that being able to add reactions to news posts could make for a nice addition en lieu of the now-removed comments feature. As a Discord mod my mind jumps to the idea of these reactions functioning similarly to that, where people can choose an emoticon to react with, making a list appear that shows who and how many users reacted with what. That's only a mere thought though, for the site it could go any other way.
