Let's use the US as a counter-example to your over-arching claim. The US has Japanese, black, gay, and trans people in power in assorted executive and legislative positions, all of whom have been discriminated against. Let's examine what revenge by those people would look like:

- Enslaving white people (black people used to be slaves).
- Segregating white people from black people, with white people having inferior facilities (black people used to be segregated, with inferior facilities).
- Preventing white people from voting (black people used to be and continue to be disenfranchised).
- Putting white people in internment camps (Japanese people were interned during World War II).
- Allowing a "cis panic" and a "straight panic" defense in criminal proceedings, which asks a jury to find that a cis victim or a straight victim is to blame for a defendant's violent reaction, up to and including the murder of the victim ("gay panic" and "trans panic" defenses are still allowed in several states).
- Allowing a cis or straight person to be fired from their job just because they are cis or straight (it used to be legal to fire gay or trans people for being gay or trans, and is still the case for so-called religious organizations).
- Not allowing a straight couple to get married (it used to be illegal for a gay couple to get married).
- Denying health insurance to cis people because they are cis (it used to be legal for insurance companies receiving federal funding to deny healthcare to trans people because they were trans).
- Forcing straight people into conversion therapy to try to make them gay (conversion therapy to attempt to make gay people straight is still legal in several US states).

There is a conspicuous lack of any such policies.

Eh. This actually scares me as I've fallen afoul of "harmful beliefs" before.
Sometimes, it feels too easy to get on someone's bad side, or for them to be bothered by something you say or do.
Hopefully I won't end up going out cause of this, but I am worried.

It's really hard to be banned accidentally.
If you think about what you say before you post it, things will be fine, if you make a mistake, someone will tell you, and you can move on from there and use that as an opportunity to not make the same mistake.

To get banned, especially in a major way, or have your account disabled, you really have to be pushing it. Like ignoring rules, being hostile or whatever. It doesn't happen at random like that.

I agree up to the point of zero-tolerance policy. Regardless of how bigoted your authorities are, how intolerant your country's law is, how anyone else around you acts, or what your religion dispraises, everyone around here should be enforced to follow these standards. If you don't like homosexual marriages, don't make one. If abortion is contrary to your beliefs, then don't do it. If you're not convinced about someone's sexual orientation, don't even try to argue with them about how being gay is wrong. Simple.

Looking through warning/ban logs, I see some folks didn't realize what they did could be considered harassment and bigoted behavior towards certain folks wasn't always specified in their logs. If someone's being harassed even not specifically upon their class/category, why not define harassment in rule A1? I have learned repeated jokes about certain users could be taken seriously by others from a warning on Discord, and then not to bring them onto the site from a site warning. What do you think of this?

Exactly this. Trust me, if we wanted revenge, you'd know very quickly. Am I absolutely infuriated as a trans woman that it's still a legal defense for murder in some places to say the victim is trans? Yeah, you're damn right I am, but am I going to retaliate to that with equal measures? No... Why in all that is green and good would I do that? What would that accomplish?

No, I just want the places that I frequent to be free of all discriminatory views, attitudes, and frankly people. That's not even close to revenge; revenge is eye for an eye, this is "please go away" for an eye, a hand, and 3 toes.

If that in any way bothers you or makes you, as a cishet person, uncomfortable, this is not my problem; it's your responsibility to educate yourself.

As someone who would be considered as part of the “majority” and an active all around kind hearted human being, how you guys dog pile on naro makes me not want to be a member of the community.... aside from the revenge comment everything he said was simply his own opinion and to me it didn’t seem like any act of anger or spite

I’ve never hated on an African American homosexual or transgender... o in fact have many friends of these groups in real life.....

As a straight white male with a child I can say I have seen stuff on this website that has personaly offended me as that “demographic”. I also know friends within that “demograph” who have straight up left the community for stuff people have said against them... I’ve been mistreated too. So if you want to put a zero tolerance policy like this please treat all users equal when enforcing it

It wasn't "dog piling" or anything. Sure, I don't disagree with you that everyone has the right to form and voice their opinions, but when such opinions start to demean or offend a demographic in any way, that's when they should stop and be better informed. I don't plan to change everyone's mind, and if they are entitled to their opinions (as in, don't want to change them), then so be it. Also, Naro's "revenge" comment (and others who echoed him) in this very thread provoked everyone's ire and I don't blame them for it, for the matter.

I don't see this as a very big change in moderation standards. I feel like SMW Central has had this approach for a long time now.

Regarding all the (expected) hubbub that came out of this thread, no cishet white male that isn't a bigot should be concerned about this. It's not like a blind eye is being turned on instances of harassment that aren't fueled by bigotry. In fact, most of what's taken on by the forum and Discord teams is not the case.
Now if you don't think marginalized groups deserve a reaffirmation that this is a safe space, especially considering how bad places like Twitch have been in the past few months, that's a different debate.

You're right, by most accounts this isn't a huge leap in our moderation standards, but we decided it would be best to reinforce this as our message, and we've been far more proactive when it comes to cracking down on cases like these, whereas before there were things that would commonly slip by us. There definitely is some significant change, even if it doesn't seem as big as it actually is.

Yeah, I agree with Face, I don't think these rules are gonna make anyone's life here any worse at all. I barely consider this a change, as since last year or so (possibly even earlier), it has been like this anyway.

I also don't think there's even any reason to complain about this, as there's literally no situation in which attacking other people verbally would be a good idea.

These rules are also here to protect you all, with no exceptions.
If you feel uncomfortable or offended about what someone told you, you can tell that to someone, they won't dismiss you because you are a "majority". I personally wouldn't go out of my way to directly offend anyone regardless of anything. I believe you can do whatever you want as long as you're not affecting someone negatively.

I see that a lot has been going on since I was last active. Even though I'm late to the party, I'm glad the site is becoming a better place for LGBTQ+ people, especially as someone who's still trying to find out what their true sexuality is. I would go over how I learned to better myself in regards to this sort of stuff but it's not relevant to the topic, alongside adding anything of worth to discussion.

These updated rules are long overdue if you ask me. I trust that with the current staff team, things won't be going out of control in terms of how the rules are enforced. Now if it were still the staff from a couple years back and how often they'd doze off in terms of competence, that would be a cause for concern. I just find it both funny (in a twisted way) and sad at the same time that some people in this thread have such bad faith in the new rules that they find the need to go on rants to justify them possibly being bad from an objective standpoint. This isn't Twitter, no one's gonna get cancelled (read: banned) for making an honest mistake.
