Originally posted by DeppySlideOn a side note, I honestly wouldn't mind trying VLDC6's style of judging again, removing scores entirely and just categorizing the levels (Favorites, Enjoyable, Ambivalent, Unfullfilling, and Not For Me, though I would swap the latter two.) So far scoring has been my least favorite part of the judging process, and I feel these categories would reflect my thoughts on the entries a lot better, like it has in my old VLDC reviews. I am curious to see how people feel about this idea.
I really don't get it what will that change. There is 5 categories and there is really no problem imagining what points they represent:
Not for Me: 0-10/50 points
Unfulfilling: 11-20/50 points
Ambivalent: 21-30/50 points
Enjoyable: 31-40/50 points
Favorite: 41-50/50 points
In VLDC 6 this kind of judging made sense, because of theme of contest - authenticity. So most of the levels played the same. But in current contests creativity is important and it would be weird to classify every level into one of five categories. Also this judging feels more harsh. It's entirely based on fun while current score system allows to give extra points in certain categories. So even though it isn't very good to play, it may get extra points, because aesthetics looks great or it's very creative.
Also from perspective of players playing contest levels with this category judging, it's very confusing. I remember after playing VLDC 1-5 moving to VLDC 6 and noticing there is only 8 ranks and unbelievable number of draws. It was shocking for me. I had no idea what was going on. In the end, it wasn't good experience to play this contest. But maybe it's because VLDC 6 is the most boring vanilla contest of them all with many levels that feels the same. The only level I remember is about bullet bill jumping from the worst category, but it was the most unique level. I apologize to all fans of this contest.
