Tip: Unless you've disabled the bonus game, don't use a goal tape in a vertical level. The bonus game won't appear if a player happens to reach 100 bonus stars there.

Is there gonna be a BadLDC 2? If there is, it's another chance to show off my WONDERFUL level design skills.

We didn’t host BadLDC, Romhack Races did. You should ask them in their Discord server.

oh yeah... well you guys should host something like that for april fools

--------------------
That actually sounds like a refreshing idea for an April Fools event. Though it sounds like it would invite a lot of low-effort level edits...

The problem I had with BadLDC1 when I got wind of it and wanted to enter last year but ultimately didnt enter at all was that the Romhack Races people who hosted that contest didn't really define what they were specifically looking for - Is it low effort blatant edits (e.g. any given level 105 level), a level that is a flat stretch of land with nothing interesting or engaging, is it an level that has unfair setups and gimmicks (e.g. reverse controls?), or a level that is actually good but aesthetically presents itself as a bad level as the joke (e.g. various levels from YUMP, YUMP 2, Zeldara's Glitch City)?

There's different kinds of bad and specifically making a contest about it is something that makes it hard to judge what fits the parameters of such a contest.

On Pixel Art Requests: I generally do not accept work unless I either have the time, if I see your project worth my time to contribute towards, and that is usually me doing the approaching to you on that.
-I also do not accept speculative work as I do have various art I made on-hand with me.
-I am more receptive to equivalent exchange of resources in which case, you can DM me wherever I have an active presence on for the details.
-Other times I'm availible for your project is C3 request threads I may run.

Ideally, you wouldn't want to pigeonhole this. It'd be fun to see everyone come up with their own idea of a 'bad' level, and you'd get way more variety than you would in most other contests.

I don't disagree with you, but the truth is most attempts at a fun "bad" level will be very scarce and some people won't know how to draw the line.
I'm only saying this because I once submitted a terrible "bad" level in a team hack and received really harsh judgment in return.
RHR is working on our own calendar of things, including BadLDC2, but we'll make those announcements on our end and not here.

That's the thing that will make or break such an event. At what point is the line drawn?

Bad is a very subjective term, so drawing the line is especially important. Otherwise, there will likely be nothing but low-effort submissions.

It's a cool idea on paper, but my question is the logistics behind it.

Everybody who participates in BadLDC 2 better be bad dudes who are bad enough to rescue the president.
There are many things that can be considered bad, but still be fun.
But considering how common it is to have low-effort stuff in contests, I can see why it's hard to make that happen.

Honestly, a "jank level design contest" could be better in establishing a rules, since I guess to be but and fun, a game needs to be janky in a way or another otherwise it doesn't work. YUMP is really the best example of this being possible (also VIPs and whatnot), but again... it's hard to make this idea work without the contest being a total mess. Too many rules, and it kinda limits the concept, not enough rules and it leads to some problems.
