Eternity - New Music

MusicSuper Mario WorldVideo/TrailerScreenshots

With the help of Counterfeit Eternity has a new experimental music system whereby all samples are now replaced with ones from the C64's SID chip.

From last C3 here's the plot summary:

And here's some screenshots:

oh yes I remember seeing bits and bobs of this on discord and it really is something different. Well done Yoshin and Counterfeit, can't wait to see more of this project.
I think this music system thing is going over my head. Could you explain it in some more detail? It seems impressive!

I like how all this looks, the commitment to a single background layer and limited palettes really makes it look like an NES game. Very cool!

allow shy guy emojis in post footers you cowards!
I was wondering where this hack went. Interesting approach with the music but I can't help but to feel a little underwhelmed musically. Mind you that I'm not asking or expecting Rob Hubbard levels of musical finesse but something about it feels lacking in comparison to a handful of the C64's best music. I suppose it's still early days yet and you'll probably get around to abusing the SNES's music capacity to really make the music shine. I'm afraid I don't really have much else to say.

IIRC, I remember a friend of mine showing this one guy that did this SNES driver that somehow managed to replicate most (if not all) of the features from the SID, and was used for this sort of "jukebox" thing where you could listen to different demoscene music, all using this driver; dunno if that's what was done, but I'm just saying it's technically possible, even if I still can't wrap my head around how it works heh

Anyway, pretty nice, and even if I do agree the music sounds a bit underwhelming, normally the really impressive C64 music was more for title themes n' shit (or just one huge song that's used for everything in the game), so wherever stage themes were concerned, they kind of sounded mostly like that so I'm not too concerned about it... but then again, this isn't the C64, so I assume something better could be done? I dunno if it can, but just wanted to make sure really :P
