Please Watch:

Last year I made a resource to streamline making my SMW characters, however having to copy and paste everything took up a lot of time.
Aseprite has scripting to let you automate the process so I looked into exporting .bin files with lua.

What I present to you is the end result of that!
Tools to let you create and manage GFX files directly in Aseprite.

Hope you enjoy!

If you have qeustions or suggestions for features I'd be glad to hear them!

SNES GFX Tools for Aseprite

Character Dev Kit v2
im so very very glad we can finally leave the steaming pile of trash that is yychr behind

thank you for this, might hands down be the best release all categories this C3
i no longer have to open four hundred instances of YY-CHR while editing every single setting manually on each window

seriously this was long overdue and I'm glad someone tackled this serious issue in a more than adequate way, than you very much

This is extremely helpful. While I have nostalgia for using yychr for pixelart, I have no reason not to abandon it immediately #smrpg{:D}

Also nice motion graphics and editing for your videos, they look really high quality!

I think every GFX artist can unanimously say with certainty...

Even though has been updated with more features over the original, it still has it quirks that makes GFX creation less than ideal.
But now? I think more people will be encouraged to make their own GFX, from custom characters to backgrounds.

Also thanks for the Player Testing Rom from last year's winter C3.
Very nice, i work a lot with aseprites, i am sure that will be very useful for me.

Now this is a welcome surprise!
The existing graphics programs feel so limited, so I was always trying to use other tools anyhow. They're not really made with compatibility in mind, so they end up shifting colors around, and bleargh. What pain that you've saved us all from!

you finally released this! outstanding job.

oh this is all kinds of Very Cool! i can see this being super helpful for the many artists who use asesprite and hack smw, and allow for an easier transition for artists to do graphics for smw with smw's wonky formatting.

you king.

Not all heroes wear cape. Thank you so much, this will help me and my friend transfer the player sprites for my hack. He uses a lot the asesprite for his pixel stuff, so it will be handy. #smrpg{y}
This tool is a life-saving for making graphics.

This still doesn't support either 8bpp format, right? Does it allow you to copy-paste only non-blank pixels (for instance, if you want to make a slope with dirt behind it)?
This is huge.

Okay, what do I mention first.

- I actually watched these in full-screen because you got my full attention.
- You really know a thing of three about video editing. The production quality is way higher than it has any reason to be.
- Auto-setting the size when saving to a .bin file and using different palettes across the spritesheet are exactly the features I wanted. This seems really user-friendly and easy to use, too.
(- now if only I could be bothered to buy and learn aseprite)

Again, this is fantastic! Time will tell if you set a new standard or not, but you have definitely just made a lot of people's lives easier.

Oh wow this can save so much time drawing stuff it's crazy. Legit impressive. Not really a fan of the script needing Asesprite though, but I guess I'm not really the audience for it anyway...
By the way, ExAnimation files are 6.75 KiB, not 6.5 (or at least, they can be).

You're truly revolutionary.

Let's hope YY-CHR will be eventually replaced and we use this Aseprite script instead!

I may have only started hacking SMW seriously just over the past year or so, but I am already so excited to not have to use YY-CHR anymore.

Oh thank you!!! If I ever get back to hacking at some point this is primary to have, especially for someone like myself that never adapted to YY-CHR and used to use graphic editor to do their shit 😬
I don't have Aseprite right now, but it looks very cool! I'll try it right now.
Reporting for you for this year’s E3. Catch it on 6:00 PM PHT.
