Unfortunately, there is no way to receive email updates for a thread. However, you can receive alerts within the site for it. Just click on "Watch Thread" on the top-right, and you'll receive an alert in the Alerts menu whenever someone posts in that thread. You can also do the same thing with submissions.
This is enabled by default for threads you create and submissions you upload, so you might receive an alert for my reply to this thread and see the process in action.
