Tip: Take advantage of easy to install Patches in your hack. For example, the Classic Piranha Plant fix should be considered if you are planning to insert that sprite in your hack.

For those who have yet to see, I thought I'd make a thread to show off some restorations that musicalman and I have been working on. The plans for this have been in the talks for quite some time, roughly around the time we were working on the smas ost but didn't have the time nor findings at the time until the other SMW restoration project exploded. Musicalman and I took a different approach and went sample based rather than patch based and we both have worked our butts off tryna stay faithful to the og to see how it woulda sounded like had it not been compressed.

Super Mario World Restored OST (Bonus Tracks) Playlist

I'm not much of a rules guy but I do have at least one thing to ask if you wish to leave comments here or on the vids comment sections: Please do not try to say things like "XX version is better than XX!" I am very much open to criticism but don't try so one version is better without giving some critique (I've had a few comments saying that so and so is better than Brickster's versions, etc and it makes me uneasy). I actually am in a server with Brickster's team/friends and they've worked their butts off on their research and restores and just for fun and I am very much aware of some drama that occurred with some hate (some valid criticism too ofc) bc the restores didn't sound like the og and I don't want my vids to be a haven for those types of comments. We both respect our takes on the OST and I ask you guys respect as well.

With that nonsense out of the way (lol), please feel free to leave any comments! Ofc I'd rather have them on the vids since it can help boost the vids in Youtube's algorithm but I'll also be watching this thread here in case someone leaves comments! I do hope you guys can leave likes and share since I've sorta been left in a shadow here haha but nonetheless Musicalman and I will continue to do every song we did in our SMAS ost (smas, smw, sma, sma2, sma4, smm, smm2).

Hey, these are all pretty damn good! Kudos to you two for making them!

And I agree that all the hate by the community is pretty stupid. Both takes on the restoration are different, yet both good and interesting their own way. Your version definitely does sound a bit closer the SNES originals, which I think is cool to experience, but the other version also has some things going for it. Overall, people should just appreciate having varriety.

Thanks! It's kinda crazy how much more harder it was than we though to tweak the samples to sound like how they did in smw, specifically that @2 -_-

Fully agree on this.

Got a new restore. Only did the first part bc the @6 sample's source is yet to be found.

Loving this! Can't wait for the second part to be restored. It's one of my favorite tracks in the game.

Hah, these are pretty great! I like how most of the tracks sound close enough that they could easily be mistaken for the in-game versions, while still sounding notably crisper. Good work on this.

I never really understood the hate against projects like this either. I like these arrangements, and I also like Brickster's arrangements - they're both quite lovely in different ways.

Would you ever reveal more information on what exactly these "source" samples are? I admit I'm a bit curious on that, partly because I think it's interesting to learn about what sorts of sample libraries are used by big composers like Koji Kondo
and partly because it might be nice to know in case I ever decide to throw together my own Nintendo-styled song. Someday.

Thanks! I was thinking of making a placeholder for the @6 and just having musicalman either recreate the wave with either the d-50 (or maybe recreate using FM synthesis since it's a thought Pinci had its source derive from), or simply eq the in game sample while we wait for the official source to be found. The only lead we have is the preset was called "Clarinet" but no one's found which module it's from.

Much appreciated! I was actually worried at first bc I thought I'd get complaints bc they'd sound "too similar" and while I have gotten comments like that, most comments I've had are positive and welcoming. Funny enough, the first one I did of Athletic actually got downvote bombed initially but after a few hours all those downvotes got deleted? I was confused since that was the first time I had ever experienced that.

Never understood it either. People do things for fun and show their love and appreciation so why go out of your way and take time out of your day to harass/insult someone just bc they made something in a fashion you don't like? I understand criticism, even harsh criticism, but I did see some stuff without even any form of feedback to do better.

Sure, here ya go. There's tons more games too at the bottom to check, this is just the Mario section.

Super Crisp, I love it! 👍

Thanks bud! Recently decided to do something interesting. How cool would it be to listen to hear the smw songs using their source samples's full sounds? Cursed, blessed, or blursed, you gotta admit, it's pretty interesting.

I can't wait to hear how sfx sounds like lol
