Now we gaming, friends
Asking here: the only thing that will be avaliated is the
overworld, right? So if someone send an entry with only a submap will be rejected?

How i can say... is only overworld against overworld, right?
Submap against overworld isn't allowed, i guess.

It's generally the main overworld, but if you feel you can do something interesting with them as well as the main map then go ahead and it'll be judged as part of the submission.
Does it matter which maps you use? I thought you're free to use (or not use) any of them
Maybe I'm just misunderstanding something
i need a clear definition of "overworld". is it just based on the game mode (aka if $0100 = x0E)?

basically, how flexible is this rule:

There are no restrictions on graphics, ASM, etc.
Not that i'm using it, but you guys haven't mentioned anything about MSU-1.

I realise I made a few typing errors in my reply to TheMorganah which made the reply basically not make sense, so... oops.

You can use the main map, or submap(s), or all of it. Entirely up to you. You can even just make one submap if you really wanted, but unless it's absolutely astonishing it probably won't score very well.

"Overworld" refers to a map of a world that the player would use to navigate between levels. How you get to this outcome is entirely up to you.

Anyone can feel free to use MSU-1 if they want, but there's no guarantee judges will use it. Therefore, you should ensure your entry is also non-MSU-1 compatible too.
Is MSU-1 music allowed? If so, I'm gonna put this month of time to good use.

Thank you for take your time to respond my question.
However I noticed a certain contradiction that caused me even more doubts:

Ok, in this case let's supose that i'll make a overworld with eye candy graphics, memorable music and some cool ASM tricks but the main proposal is to use the power of the MSU-1.
And so, you said:

If anything is allowed so my entry have the right to be avaliated with MSU-1 and all. Otherwise, what is the point of dedicate myself for a month if the judges have the validation to be inconsistent with their reviews?

This is the same thing of be a beta tester using ZSNES when everyone knows that Snes9x is way better. The beta tester will find bugs because of the emulator itself and not the hack. Don't you consider this unfair to the participants?

Ah, I’m blind. Thank you.

being honest, msu-1 exists in a weird sphere. currently (and for the foreseeable future), we do not support hosting msu-1 files in our hack sections. in the past, people have primarily used msu-1 just for cd quality music, which is primarily what tahixham is referring to re: the judges may not utilize it. having an msu-1 entry takes what would normally be just a .bps file and adds a plethora of extra files with it, and as someone who has judged contests with multiple msu-1 entries, it does make organizing things kind of messy. beyond that, some people don't have their emulators / consoles set to recognize msu-1 (either they use an old version, or use something incompatible). and, in the past, if all msu-1 is used for is just cd quality music, we've found it ultimately doesn't matter much if someone plays the level and it instead loads regular smw music.

basically, msu-1 hasn't really been used in a way in which it's necessary to have to experience the entry. if you are considering using it in a way in which it's fundamental to your entry, i'd say have a text file with your submission saying just that. but i don't think peoples cd quality music is particularly fundamental to an entrys experience.

To further elaborate on idol's post, if judges can get your entry to work "out of the box". ie, no fiddling about with file names, emulator settings, etc, then we'll use it, then it will be judged as part of your entry. Therefore, you should make every effort to make sure it's easy on the judges part to make your entry work.

I've updated the rules to clarify this.
Not sure if I'll try this. I guess I will find out.
Sorry for double posting, but there is a thing regarding HDMA. I know we can use UberASMTool and MFG's HDMA patch to spice up the submaps, but I assume if a moderator or a user likes to see an event and the menu shows up, the HDMA might go away,
Dispace, remove your name from your entry...

If that does happen, then you won’t be penalised in your scoring, so don’t worry about it too much!
Okay then. Sometimes, it dissapears for good.
