Everhood: An Ineffable Tale of the Inexpressible Divine Moments of Truth

I rarely come across a game I love throughout such as this, last possible example being TWEWY (The World Ends With You), but Everhood has truly become one of those games that I'd probably always recommend to people willing to experience it.

The gameplay itself shares some similarities with Undertale but I'd argue this game is almost an older brother of it, both share roots in theme and style, but I would confidently say both stand strongly on their own merits, me personally favoring Everhood over Undertale. It took what Undertale presented and flipped everything to present a far more somber tone, the idea that there are some necessary evils in the world and sometimes the player must do horrible things for the right reasons.

The playstyle is set on a grid of 5 rows, and the enemy shoots projectiles in time with the song playing while you dodge
and eventually absorb
the the attacks. A very simple playstyle that progressively gets harder as you get further into the game.
The music, being a strong factor in the fighting sections of the game, carry a strong style for every character and you'll always come across a new character/boss with a style of their own. With the music being a part of the fight, you certainly tend to remember them a lot more than normal RPGs.

I just want to present this game to anyone curious and see if anyone who has played this game has anything to say about it. I honestly want to talk a lot about it but I know too well that feeling of being overly excited about a thing no one cares about and left to myself just feeling like people are missing out on a very fun game

If I had to pick a single fight out of context it'd probably be this:
Looks pretty wild. I can definitely see a ton of parallels between this and Undertale, to the point I know this game will never escape the comparisons from the casual observer. Not that I think there's anything wrong with drawing heavy inspiration from a great and unique game as long as it knows how to become something of its own.

I'll keep an eye out for a sale, seems pretty interesting, just not enough to jump the backlog for me quite yet.
This looks amazing! I love the visuals and music, the gameplay looks pretty hard too. The colorful creatures in the fight remind me a lot of Yume Nikki and so does the overworld, there's also some obvious rhythm game influence, kinda like those freeware games that are inspired by stuff like Guitar Hero but take a different turn.

Honestly, this looks super, super neat! I'm a big sucker for Rhythm games, and this basically looks like a reverse Rhythm game of sorts. In Rhythm games, the gameplay revovles around trying to hit all notes. In this game, it seems, the gameplay revolves around trying to avoid all notes. I really like the concept of that. Will definitely try to check this game out. I'm sure I'll like it.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
I decided to check it out and it pretty much can be summed up as acid trip: the video game. The soundtrack is easily a major strong point of this game. Some of it almost sounding club-like.
I'm currently at
the segment after I've killed everyone and start playing as someone named Pink and in some kind of battle that takes place underwater. I don't really know exactly what's going on so IDK if a spoiler tag is really necessary but I will still put one anyway as a precaution.
I hate it when the battlefield gets all distorted cuz it feels kinda cheap since it makes the notes harder to dodge.

It is pretty much the final fight in that ending so yeah a spoiler tag seems alright. While I certainly agree the distortion effects are kind of annoying, the lore reasoning for them for me really makes it feel more impactful

You're to some extent fighting the world of Everhood, the last living entity that exists that was probably the first one that desired to die after the eternity of living. The distortion coming from the existence of the world around you dying.
Looks a bit like Guitar Hero except you're actually dodging the notes coming towards you.
I'm just after
I've gotten my arm back
in my new game+ and now
some guy named Sam has taken me thru another door leading to a fight against the Cat God, which is stupidly difficult even on story mode. That yellow note bullet hell is even worse than the bullet hell during the guitar solo in the Rasta Beast fight.

Now attempting the Meet Your Maker ending.
The cat statue seems to only appear randomly and after placing the 3 gemstones on it I'm now thrown into a battle that in one part the notes travel at a speed that requires inhuman reflexes and for the player to be able to see frame by frame, and even on story mode you'll still probably die a lot.
