New kaizo player having issues with controller - help me, please!

Hello!

I've been watching kaizo players for a while now, and finally decided to give it a try myself. The emulation works fine for me, and I've beaten the first two levels of Quickie World.

However, the third level (Glitchcat Lake), I can't jump far enough to get past the first obstacle. I've tried for quite some time, but I never once managed to jump far enough, with either a spin jump or a regular jump.

I watched a streamer play the level, and they have no issue making the jump. I just can't seem to get enough distance, even though I'm going at max speed.

I'm worried that there's something wrong with my controller - I'm using a wired XBox controller.

Could someone please let me know if there's some tech I don't know, or anything else that may be causing the issue?

Thank you so much!
You forgot to slide (press down on the ground) and don't move to increase the impulse.
The trick is that after sliding and jumping, if you don't press any direction on the dpad Mario's speed won't decrease, so you'll be able to clear the distance.

Well I feel dumb that it was so simple. Thanks for letting me know!
Don't worry, it's not very intuitive and the game doesn't tell you anywhere, so don't feel bad.
I'm late to respond to this thread, but I suggest playing the first world of Kaizo Kindergarten, if you have not already. It just teaches you some lesser-known mechanics in SMW that might be useful when playing Kaizo hacks, especially if whatever hack you are playing fails to explain the mechanics it demands from you.
