I've been working on my second Kaizo hack in my spare time for a little over two years now, and I'm finally at a point where I can show off my work properly. The game is called Yoshi's Revenge, so I'm sure you can guess what the plot is about...
The structure of the game is very different from other Kaizo hacks. In order to access the final levels you must clear at least three out of four Switch Palaces. Which three you choose and what order you do them in is entirely up to you, which means a lot of levels in the game are entirely optional! There's also multiple ways to reach all of the switches. This, together with some other split paths you encounter means that there are over 200 ways to reach the end of the game, all of which involve playing a unique set of levels. Only three exits in the game are mandatory, two of which are the first and final level.
My first hack, Salty Sagan World, got a reputation for being exceptionally difficult and punishing. This time, I'm really focusing on three fundamental F:s to try and craft a much smoother and less frustrating, albeit still challenging, Kaizo experience.
Flow: All levels can be played with minimal stopping, some levels enforce it others do not.
Fair: Obviously a bit of BS comes with the Kaizo territory, but I'm making sure every level uses only a few elements and has no crazy tricks so that it is hopefully never too difficult to figure out how to proceed.
Fun: If it's not fun, why bother?
If you want to see some footage, I have a little trailer below. Release date is still very unclear, because there's a lot of ASM-heavy stuff I want to do in the remaining levels, which I will definitely need some kind soul to help me with.
Nonetheless, I hope this little teaser interested you, thank you for reading & watching!
