Well another C3 in our horizon. This time I have a little project that I'd like to show you. I've been working on a hack mixture between kaizo: light and puzzles. Maybe we could call it kaizo: light hack per se, since puzzles aren't only for this difficulty. I know Kaizo these days has been something like go-go-go!!, multiple precise tricks and fast paced platforming gameplay, but here you can stop and think what you must do! I think that's important.
Here are some screenshots of some levels, which hopefully doesn't spoil the solutions:
And, here are some teasers from YouTube (Spoiler'd for obvious reasons):
In the meantime there's no a demo patch, so I hope you enjoy this little preview.
07/05/2021 Update: Here's the DEMO with 11 levels available to play. Overworld is open to navigate on all the levels. Please, feel free to give your feedback, comments, or report bugs you may find (or cheeses )
aw man, I'm not a huge fan of Puzzle hacks but that looks sick. There was only few puzzles I really like in some hacks and this looks really interesting and fun. I'm def Looking forward to see more of it and play it. Good job, keep it up
I really like puzzle hacks that push the player and the mechanics found within SMW and it's spaghetti coding.
Always why is it lately that all the tougher hacks getting released have some of, if not the best aesthetics attached to them? I really like the look of this project so I hope it continues to progress smoothly.
Hourglass Twist! It has a name now, and I ilke it. The yoshi quake level that you showed me earlier was really creative and I like how everything in this comes off as really...mario makery. Like, not in terms of being sprite spam, in how all the levels are really complicated little machines that you have to move through in the right way.
I'm excited to see what you do in the future!

Thank you @Insanit, @1UP, @DB for your nice comments. I really appreciate them.
I know not many people love puzzles, as not many other people love kaizo. I've been working on making something at the middle of those terms. I'm gonna post some updates later. Thanks again friends
Visually it looks good.
It uses some weird, gimmicks in very clever ways.
It definitely seems like a hard hack to me (based on the videos), and I would like to play it, but I'm not really good at puzzles..
Instead of playing it I would recommend it for people who like these kinds of hacks. Since, it looks like it has some really good, clever puzzles.
Anyway, in short: It's looking promising, keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback!! I have to say I’m mainly inspired by gbreeze’s hacks/levels, also Lazy and Morsel material, and some other less known puzzle hacks. Thanks again Friday!!
Cool puzzles aside, I must say that I really like how this hack looks (especially the top right and bottom left screenshots). Your aesthetic style is very interesting.

Heya! Thanks for the feedback about aesthetics. I want to preserve vanilla looking, I’m just adding some minor touches. I’m about two levels to finish this hack and release it.
With less than 1 day before C3 ends, I decided to add a demo patch. You can find it in the first post. Thank you all the people for your kind comments and feedback. I really hope you enjoy the hack.
I had a blast playing the demo and can only say that I'm very much looking forward to the full release. Puzzle hacks are a rarity to begin with, and this one even features some very nice glitches. I also like that the level are compactly built and look a bit claustrophobic.
I couldn't figure out how to keep sliding state in the screen scrolling pipe, but other than that, the levels didn't seem to be too difficult. Here's my clear video (Spoiler warning: might spoil solutions): https://youtu.be/vOReHF_lbJY I didn't specifically try for intended or unintended solutions, but I probably broke quite a few parts.

Omg, you destroyed the hack!! I enjoyed a lot your TA playthrough, and I have to thank you because this will be very useful to fix those many breaks you found. You did many unintended solutions, but those weren't too far from the intended. I'm gonna tweak some minor things and gonna release it as a full hack soon. Agains, thanks Dacin, for destroying my hack and giving me the pleasure to see
how you destroyed the level 1 with reznor glitch, i think I'm gonna put a reward for TASers for doing this kind of crazy things
I finally figured out why I always lost sliding state. Apparently, you can't hold left/right after the screen scrolling pipe without loosing sliding state. I'm not really a fan of this mechanic / glitch since it depends on the inner workings of these custom screen scrolling pipes. In general, I would stay away from glitches that depend on custom resources.
Overall, this level is more of a classical kaizo::light level with a sliding state gimmick and less puzzly, which is fine, but it's not really my style. Anyways, here's my clear video of this level (Spoiler warning: might spoil solutions): https://youtu.be/dxS1mU64bPE?t=18

Yeah I wanted to use that kinda ssp property but maybe isn't too feasible or intuitive at first looking. Thanks again for your incredible feedback.
