Tip: A common level trope to avoid is "item babysitting". This involves forcing the player to carry P-Switches, springboards, or other items all around the level. Usually, this doesn't end up being very fun or engaging, so use another level gimmick if you can.
it's been a pretty rough year and I don't have a lot to show off for C3 this summer so I decided to finish a request from last C3. for those that wanna try it out:
a sprite version of the Midway Point object. it works akin to the Goal Tape in that it moves up and down -- instead of granting bonus stars, it gives points (and a 1up if you hit the very top), but otherwise looks/acts as you'd expect
it also comes with some configuration options if you want to make it fit into your hack better; overall, the goal was to make it fit in vanilla-styled hacks
a proper release will be in the sprites section, but for now:
Probably my favourite thing I've seen from C3. Poor Monke.
The sprite looks really dynamic with all the ways in which it can interact with the environment and other sprites. I really like how its super faithful to YI and really looks and feels like it did in that game.
On a scale of 1-10 how hard/complex was it to make this sprite with all of its features?

the only thing worth saying is that i had to learn to hack yoshi's island in order to create a patch to let me see the frames the ukiki uses ingame, and then i had to manually recreate the graphics routine in smw
let's just say i've learned my lesson about sprite requests

I had a feeling you had to look them up from Yoshi's Island (not that I didn't do that as well). It's still quite cool to see Ukikis in SMW, given much mischief they can make.
Ohh yes! Mischievous monkeys in Super Mario World. What a time to be alive. Can't wait to see what I can do with these fun little guys. Definetely they're going to my hack and will cause a lot of trouble. It's fun to troll the player.
That must have been an insane work to pull off, so congratulations for making one of the most memorable Yoshi Island enemies in SMW.
I love that you're releasing this cheeky monkey, looks like a lot of work went into making it a lot like the original. I remember you showing it off on Twitter stealing a goal point orb, I hope I can still make it do that
Wow, looks like there's gonna be some serious monkey business in the future here! One question, did you implement the water behavior, for when one of the monkeys lands in the drink (whether it's been damaged or not)? I'm kinda curious.
These look like a lot of fun to mess around with. Can they pull out any other sprite like the one with the springboard does? So for example, could you have one that throws Grinders or something
I love the Yoshi's Island monkeys, so seeing you make a sprite in SMW based on them is fantastic! I've considering using them in my old hacks at some point, but they weren't really made at the time. When I do make another hack, I'll consider using these sprites!
