In lieu of our periodically recurring staff applications, this thread will stand open year-round as a list of which positions around the site are in need of filling, granting our team managers more leeway to recruit more help as the need arises. In addition, this thread will document openings for Site Helper positions.
Unlike a Moderator, who is a full-time member of the Staff team, Site Helpers are brought on to assist in a more limited capacity. What exactly it is a Helper does varies from section to section, and the role can exist with respect to a specific project (like a remoderation or a contest) - be sure to read and understand the details regarding the position you are applying for!
Do be aware that Site Helpers do not receive a custom name colour. However, their usernames are marked with a special icon (
) to distinguish them in the online users list; they are given a Helper power title, as well. The section below lists all the positions that could potentially be hiring. Special projects in need of help such as remoderations and contests are added and removed as needed. You may submit an application for any position tagged as being OPEN!. A Staff member will post in this thread each time a position is opened, closed, added, or removed.
Send your application via PM to one of the relevant Staff Team Managers. Once your application has been received, it will be discussed amongst the team, and you will be contacted once a decision has been made. Your application will be kept on file even if you are not hired, and we may choose to reach out in the future should a position open up later on. You are permitted to apply for more than one position. Should you have any questions, you are free to ask them in this thread, or contact the relevant section manager directly.
In your application, please specify which position you are applying for in the PM subject. Regardless of the specific role, your application should be built around the following:
• Your history with the site
• Your relation to the position you are applying for
• Why you feel qualified for the position, and what experience you have in this field
Other important information to include is:
• Your age
• What language(s) you speak
• How active you are on SMW Central
• How much time (on average) you would have to attend to your duties
Failure to address any of the above points may result in your application not being considered. We encourage you to elaborate on your skills! Each position that is currently hiring as listed in the section below contains additional information, about the position itself as well as specific information to submit on your application. Make sure you consider this information to guarantee that your application is complete.

Hey everyone, we're looking for some more help in the graphics section since the team has gotten a little thin recently. With us prepping for a remoderation soon:tm: we're looking for someone with quite a bit of availability to help keep the queue clear and to help out with the actual remoderation when the time comes. We're open for a helper right now, but promotion to full graphics moderator is possible.
SMW Graphics moderators and helpers are expected to:
1) Have an understanding of pixel art and graphics, especially within SNES and SMW Hacking limitations, pinpoint general and specific flaws and mistakes, as well as be able to suggest improvements.
2) Know their way around the technicalities involved in custom graphics for SMW Hacking (Lunar Magic navigation, map16 editing, palmasking, etc.)
3) Understand usability and the optimization thereof with regards to graphics (Organizing map16, splitting graphics files effectively, reducing palette consumption, etc.)
3) Write constructive, informative, and educational removal logs
4) Dedicate some time, albeit not massive, towards a serious and not so exciting task
5) Be mature, understand voluntary teamwork, and know when matters should be brought to discussion with the rest of the staff team first

SMW Music Sections
SMW Music Moderator - OPEN!
SMW Music Helper - OPEN!
Hey! Do you like custom music for SMW? Do you want to contribute in some way to the largest single section on the site? Or maybe you're sick of seeing the high queue? Well, we're opening applications for SMW Music Moderators and Helpers to help satiate all of those desires. We're opening for both based on the availability of the applicants; if you have free time and can consistently contribute, try your hand at being a moderator, and if you don't have much time but want to contribute in some meaningful way every now and again, opt for helper.
Music moderation is a simple task, and we're willing to help you out through everything you need to know. Additionally, each function you'll have will be thoroughly explained to you both in a guidelines post as well as by your fellow team members. A music moderator is expected to:
1) Have a solid understanding of custom music, their limitations, good practices for MML syntax and an ear for mixing and inaccuracies as they come.
2) Be able to communicate with submitters to provide feedback when necessary.
3) Write informative and explanatory rejection logs, and having sound judgment on when to reject music.
4) Be mature, understand the rules and guidelines that come with the position, and be able to communicate with other mods during times of uncertainty.
5) Be on Discord, as that's our primary method of communication.
If this is something you can do, send Slash Man a PM talking about yourself, your experience with SMW Music and why you'll be a good pick to be a moderator or helper. Additionally, supply one name that you think is pretty. Thank you for reading this, and we hope to hear from you soon!

SMW ASM Sections
SMW ASM Moderator - OPEN!
SMW ASM Helper - OPEN!
The primary job of an ASM Moderator or general ASM Helper is to verify the quality and functionality of a patch, sprite, block, Tweak, or UberASM code before accepting it into the sections. In addition, ASM Moderators/Helpers review the accuracy and relevance of entries to be accepted into the Memory Maps.
In practice, a Moderator and a Helper both carry out the same tasks. The primary difference between the two is time demand - a helper is only expected to take care resources here and there, whereas a full Moderator is expected to be more consistently engaged. Please specify whether you are applying to be a Moderator or Helper, but do bear in mind we're more than willing to work with you as you feel out the role - the potential is there to promote from Helper to Moderator should you find the workload manageable, and vice-versa if it's too much.
One seeking to become an ASM Moderator/Helper needs to:
• Possess a suitable grasp of ASM coding basics
• Know how to apply patches with Asar
• Know how to add sprites, blocks and UberASM with PIXI, GPS and UberASM Tool, respectively
• Be able to demonstrate appropriate thoroughness in testing a resource
• Be available with relative consistency, particularly for full Moderators
One seeking to become an ASM Moderator/Helper does not need to:
• Possess in-depth, high-level knowledge of ASM or SNES functions
• Know how to code in any language other than ASM
• Have experience with debugging tools
• Be 100% comfortable with every aspect of sprites, blocks, patches, and UberASM at once
• Be available 24/7 without exception
You don't need to be a coding master in order to apply - far from it! Learning on the job is expected, and is considered part-and-parcel of the moderation experience. Though the bulk of moderating an individual resource tends to be a solitary effort, teamwork and communication are still a big part of the job - Discord access is very highly recommended, but can be discussed if it presents an issue.
In applying for the position of ASM Moderator or Helper, you are encouraged (but not required) to address the following questions:
• How old are you?
• Do you speak any languages other than English?
• Why do you want to become an ASM Moderator?
• What would you describe as your strengths and weaknesses when it comes to ASM?
• Have you created any resources, submitted or otherwise?
By all means share anything else you think we should know!
If you're on the fence about applying, the recommendation is to go for it anyway. Worst case scenario you're passed over, and even then your name will be kept in mind for hires down the road.
SMW Patch Remoderation Helper - OPEN!
The Patch Remoderation Helper position has a narrower focus and a more relaxed time demand, and may be a good way to get a taste of the moderation process. A Remoderation Helper needs to:
• Possess a suitable grasp of ASM coding basics
• Know how to apply patches with Asar
• Know how to convert manual freespace to automatic
• Possess a rudimentary understanding of SA-1 and SA-1 hybridized patches
• Be able to demonstrate appropriate thoroughness in testing a resource
A Helper is granted a line of communication with the ASM Team on Discord and the forums, so you wouldn't be out there all on your own. Simply check in once in a while, and update a few patches here and there.
In applying for the position of Patch Remoderation Helper, you are encouraged (but not required) to address the following questions:
• How old are you?
• Do you speak any languages other than English?
• Why do you want to become a Patch Remoderation Helper?
• What would you describe as your strengths and weaknesses when it comes to ASM?
• Have you created any resources, submitted or otherwise?
Please specify that you are applying for the Patch Remoderation Helper position in your application.
