SMWCentral Official Annual Music Tourney #1 2021 - end

MusicOther Contest/Event

Masashi Hamauzu - Soaring Wings
Jun Chikuma and Hirohiko Fukuda - Stage 5, Electro

Masashi Hamauzu - Soaring Wings
György Ligeti and The King's Singers - The Alphabet

I won't lie, Ahora te puedes marchar was really close, but I figured The Alphabet wasn't gonna get as much love so I cast a vote it's way. If I could I would've put all 3 of these up here though.
embed fail!!

Masashi Hamauzu - Soaring Wings
Luis Miguel - Ahora te puedes marchar
György Ligeti and The King's Singers - Nonsense Madrigals: No. 3 "The Alphabet"
msx - time tripping

I liked Oblivion too but not nearly enough to topple anything. I don't care about the rest whatsoever.

Gosh I love Ligeti. Definitely one of his easier works to listen to as far as I can tell, absolutely love the harmonic movement in this piece.
1. György Ligeti and The King's Singers - The Alphabet (actually really enjoyed this one honestly, a lot more than I was expecting, since I love this sorta haunting soundscape type shit that you can zone out to, almost hypnotic in a sense; pretty cool shit lol)

2. Masashi Hamauzu - Soaring Wings (pretty good stuff, but I agree with Sinc in that it isn't the best Hamauzu song around; still pretty good compared to some of the other tracks tho, cool composers are cool #tb{:)})

3. msx - time tripping (honestly, the Einhander rapping part pretty much sold me on this almost immediately, but I dunno if it's as good as others are making it out to be; seems to me like this is more of a grower than a immediate banger tho, so who knows, maybe with repeated listens I might appreciate it more)

4. Luis Miguel - Ahora te puedes marchar (pretty nice, actually reminds me a little bit of 80s MPB lol; but yeah, sadly not as good as the other songs, or whatever)

5. Sacha Collisson - Symphony Number Vibe (not bad, but ultimately not that good either, or some shit)

6. Jun Chikuma and Hirohiko Fukuda - Stage 5, Electro (cool, but not good enough. or something like that)

7. Inkie - Oblivion (cool, but not cool. or whatever tf)

8. Lucius - Wildewoman (boring, but also bad. or uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh something or other)

Every dream is but another reality, never forget…

My In-Progress Hack

Lucius - Wildewoman | vibes good. album cover sure is something
Luis Miguel - Ahora te puedes marchar | gonna be honest i'm kind of a sucker for the original, also i love samantha fox's take on it, and mr. miguel also does it justice in spanish. i mean probably. i don't speak spanish. but it sounds good still.

Inkie - Oblivion | bouncy and silly
msx - time tripping | this is good
Masashi Hamauzu - Soaring Wings | didn't leave an impression
Sacha Collisson - Symphony Number Vibe | this is more dnb than anything with like dub wahs and none of it i really like
György Ligeti and The King's Singers - The Alphabet | best of the songs i didnt choose
Jun Chikuma and Hirohiko Fukuda - Stage 5, Electro | bomberman 5 ost good just didnt stand up to the songs i chose

grunch

ask me if i give a f*ck...
1. on our own
2. gauntlet

everything else
so oder so, game corner, living in the light, long day's night, 4-mat, the field

I did not actually like really any of these besides the first two (and even the follin song isn't my favorite of his), very disappointing round
1. 4-Mat - Rose
2. Bobby Brown - On Our Own

3. Tim Follin - Title [Gauntlet III]
4. Bosse - So oder so
5. The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night
6. RetroSpecter - Game Corner Remix
7. Ridiculon - Living in the Light
8. The Field - Over the Ice

Enjoyed quite a few of these, pretty good set.
Bobby Brown - On Our Own
4-Mat - Rose

Honorary Mentions:
The Field - Over the Ice
Tim Follin - Title [Gauntlet III]
EASILY the worst set so far, at least in my opinion. I didn't really care for any of these songs.

1. Tim Follin - Title [Gauntlet III]: Probably the best song of this set, yeah. That part at 0:30 was especially good.
2. Bobby Brown - On Our Own: This song's nothing amazing, but it was nice to listen to and I enjoyed it more than most of the others this time around.
---------------
3. RetroSpecter - Game Corner Remix: This song is solid, but I've heard far better Game Corner remixes (if you liked this, I'd recommend the song Lucky Coin by Schtiffles).
4. 4-Mat - Rose: Not a bad song, but it got old pretty quickly.
5. Bosse - So oder so: This was okay, but I doubt it's a song I'll remember after a few hours.
6. The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night: I'm not much of a Beatles fan, if I'm being honest. They have a few songs that I like, but this one was just kinda bland.
7. The Field - Over the Ice: This is just awful. If it weren't for the fact that the Ridiculon song caused me physical pain, I would've put this one at the bottom.
8. Ridiculon - Living in the Light: The scratching noises throughout this song were genuinely hard for me to listen to. I'm kinda sensitive to certain sounds, and this song basically sounded like nails on a chalkboard to me. Honestly, though, I don't think I would like this even without those noises.
Check out my WIP romhack!

My choices:
1- RetroSpecter - Game Corner Remix
2- Bobby Brown - On Our Own

3- The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night
4- Bosse - So oder so
5- 4-Mat - Rose
6- Tim Follin - Gauntlet III, Title Music (Amiga)
7- Ridiculon - Living in the Light
8- The Field - Over the Ice

Stay peachy!
rose - absolute classic and a great demonstration of limitation
on our own - wow, a song with actual soul

-

gauntlet 3 title - good but not my favorite follin

over the ice - the content of the song is decent but why the fuck is it 7 minutes of the same thing, it should have been no more than 2
living in the light - this could have had potential but the vocals are fucking horrid and obnoxious
game corner remix - generic and bland
hard day's night - very boring
so oder so - even more very boring
soundcloud / bandcamp / twitter / buy/stream my EP / buy my touhou music / buy my NEW album!!!
The Field - Over the Ice | the field does not do wrong. love the vocal samples in this track ah
Bobby Brown - On Our Own | undefeatable. american anthem.

Ridiculon - Living in the Light | this is okay
The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night | i cannot stand the beatles as people and that aside this song is not speaking to my heart
Bosse - So oder so | this is actually something i can jam to
4-Mat - Rose | i dont really like chiptune that much beyond a few anamanaguchi songs and this doesn't do anything for me
RetroSpecter - Game Corner Remix | the above comments + dont tend to really care much about vgm remixes + this one especially doesn't do a whole lot
Tim Follin - Title [Gauntlet III] | this is gonna become a recurring thing in my votes where 9 times out of 10 i just find the nonvgm songs stand out more than the vgm ones do. this is very serviceable. but i wouldnt jam to it.
4-Mat - Rose
