SMWCentral Official Annual Music Tourney #1 2021 - end

MusicOther Contest/Event

Röyksopp - Eple

Nobuo Uematsu - Main Theme [Super Smash Bros. Brawl]
1. Röyksopp - Eple - There's really no other option for my #1 pick here. This song is just good throughout the whole thing. That's a fresh funky beat going on, and that lead is satisfying to listen to.
2. Kate Bush - All We Ever Look For - This is quite different to the songs I'm used to, so points to creativity. It's pretty sounding, and has some good vibes to it. While it may be strongly suiting to my music tastes, it's enough for my pick over the rest of the songs.

3. M2U - Gypsytronic - This was super close for being my pick for the round. It's got some soul to it, especially on the guitar and violin parts, so it's all good.
4. J.A Seazer - Internal Clock, Municipal Orrery - This song has similar features to the one below, but it's interesting and more intense.
5. Nobuo Uematsu - Main Theme [Super Smash Bros. Brawl] - Ah, a classic. Honestly, I've heard better songs from this series that use this melody, like the Battlefield Theme.
6. Lena Raine - Quiet and Falling - It's alright, nice piano. My issue is the whole bassline. It's too simple yet overpowering in the song to the point where it's all I seem to hear.
7. Whitewoods - Beach Walk - This song makes my head spin, and not in a good way.
8. Alastair Lindsay & Kevin Saville - Welcome to Wonderland - The mixing isn't too good, and it's just an empty song. Like... That panning is so obvious.

These sure were the songs ever
What is a Lunar Magic, and can I eat it?
Nobuo Uematsu - Main Theme [Super Smash Bros. Brawl]

Lena Raine - Quiet and Falling

If you know me, you know how much I like platform games such as smash bros and celeste

And picked those two because each imo represent a different side of our emotions

The main theme of brawl being strong and energetic, bringin up the hype all the battles to come will be with unique characters from lots of games and series.

While Celeste's Song being calm and relaxing
with a tune of sadness but also peace, songs like that makes me think a lot, which is good

Guess that's kinda my reason for choosing them
MY TWO CHOICES:

1. NOBUO UEMATSU - MAIN THEME [SUPER SMASH BROS. BRAWL]
2. LENA RAINE - QUIET AND FALLING

AND THE OTHER SONGS:
3. Alastair Lindsay & Kevin Saville - Welcome to Wonderland
4. J.A Seazer - Internal Clock, Municipal Orrery
5. M2U - Gypsytronic
6. Kate Bush - All We Ever Look For
7. Röyksopp - Eple
8. Whitewoods - Beach Walk

Oh, man, they are all so good...

1. M2U - Gypsytronic (pretty neat lol; could probably fit in a modern Falcom game honestly, or just some kind of modern JRPG in general, heck, maybe even a indie game lmao, nice stuff)

2. Röyksopp - Eple (oh yeah, this is nice as well; also I love how the phone beeping sounds don't make me want to kill myself for once)

3. Kate Bush - All We Ever Look For (kind of wanted to nominate this as well, but I can only nominate two tracks so oh well; still tho, very solid third place over here :P)

4. Alastair Lindsay & Kevin Saville - Welcome to Wonderland (I'm surprised this is actually as good as it is lmao; Bubsy isn't a series I would necessarily think of when having "good music", but this surprisingly fits the criteria well enough so pretty neat I guess. too bad it isn't "great music" instead tho :V also god those MIDI sounds)

5. J.A Seazer - Internal Clock, Municipal Orrery (some real PC Engine CD vibes in this, god damn; dunno if I like that some of the sounds clearly sounded like the composer relied a bit too much on their SC-55/SC-88 for most of the music tho, but hey, at least it's better than Microsoft GS lol)

6. Lena Raine - Quiet and Falling (Quiet and Falling is nice and calming. but sadly not as good as the other tracks I guess still need to play Celeste btw)

7. Nobuo Uematsu - Main Theme [Super Smash Bros. Brawl] (ah yes, this theme. sadly tho I don't think this is in anything but the "it's fine" territory, so yeah, it's fine.)

8. Whitewoods - Beach Walk (same as above, except change "it's fine" to "it's vaporwave" instead)

Lena Raine - Quiet and Falling
M2U - Gypsytronic

Unfortunately my votes were a bit more rushed this time, but I still feel fairly confident in my picks. All We Ever Look For was pretty close, and I might've picked the Brawl theme in another universe where I wasn't so familiar with it already.

Preliminary Round: Set G

Minor note, work is picking up so there may be days where I have to go in the office. If that happens on a tourney update day then I will be pushing updates to evening EST.

Glad so many of you guys liked Eple. I actually almost didn't nominate it because I decided on it at the end of the previous tourney, but I stuck with it because I couldn't think of anything better. Apparently I made a good decision :P
Anyway, this set was okay. Lots of very long songs this time around, but none of them felt overly boring.

1. Chris Christodoulou - The Rain Formerly Known as Purple: This one's really good. Super chill and laid back, but also has enough going on that it doesn't feel boring. The guitar solo is awesome.
2. Tim Clarke & Christopher Stevens - Dreams: Interesting song. Very atmospheric.
---------------
3. Jessie Ware - Spotlight: This song was solid. Nothing amazing, but it's something I'd have on in the background.
4. Auxcide - The Resolute Heart: This one's pretty interesting. It's lengthy, but it also has has a lot of variety. That said, I feel like it's about 2 or 3 minutes too long; the most engaging parts of the song are definitely towards the beginning. Also...this is totally unrelated, but when this song ended, SoundCloud started autoplaying another song called Final Blast by zabutom and it was an absolute banger
5. BaianaSystem - Dia da Caça: I've never been a huge fan of reggaeton (at least I think this is reggaeton?), and this song's not really an exception. The part at the end with all the guitars is actually pretty good, though.
6. Oscar Peterson - Boogie Blues Etude: I can respect the musicianship that goes into something like this, but it's not really my thing.
7. Katie Malco - Laa Dee Daa: I feel like I've heard tons of songs that sound like this. This song does get a lot better when the other instruments come in, but it's still kind of bland. Singer has a great voice, though. Also nice album cover
8. Cherry Filter - Flying Duck: Really not feeling this one.
Check out my WIP romhack!
Oscar Peterson - Boogie Blues Etude

Chris Christodoulou - The Rain Formerly Known as Purple
Now that I've started working, I won't be able to be as active as before. This is really very sad and depressing for me.
