Pretty good set overall. Not many songs that I outright disliked.

1. Men I Trust - Seven (Garage Session): This is just such a chill song, and the lead singer has a great voice. I like this one a lot.
2. Hiromi Shibano - Moonlight Museum Ver. 1: This song's okay. Nothing amazing, but it's pretty good as background music.
---------------
3. Go Ichinose - Lake: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruInKeZu_xs
4. Takeshi Abo - Gate of Steiner -Piano-: This was a nice song to listen to, but I'm already getting burned out on piano :V
5. Busdriver - Imaginary Places: Very strange song, but also pretty catchy. Some parts were kind of annoying, though.
6. Theophany - Oath to Order: Not a bad song, but it's one of those where everything kinda blended together for me. It seems like it would be more engaging as part of a boss fight or something.
7. Mike Oldfield - Nuclear: I guess this song's not horrible, but I don't care for this guy's voice.
8. Xiu Xiu - I Luv the Valley OH!: This is another one of those songs that gets stuck in your head, but in a bad way. Also this dude's voice is so annoying Jesus Christ
Check out my WIP romhack!

Takeshi Abo - Gate of Steiner -Piano-
Go Ichinose - Lake

Just felt like picking those for the neat little variations found in them, also Lake is very relaxing. I'm not sure they will pass this round though.

All around it was a pleasant set.

Yeah, I'll agree with that one.

And this set's picks are...
  • Theophany - Oath to Order
  • Busdriver - Imaginary Places

Commentary follows...
  • Busdriver - Imaginary Places actually sounds like among the more unusual rap/hip-hop? songs. Plus, that's some pretty quick tempo in some sections (and yes, I recognize the classical music used initially). I ended up deciding to pick this over three other songs in a different group because ultimately the execution for what I was going to pick out of that group was too generic for me.
  • Amusingly, four songs de-facto ended up in the same group for me, although they varied in overall instrumentation. I chose Theophany - Oath to Order over Takeshi Abo - Gate of Steiner -Piano-, Go Ichinose - Lake and Hiromi Shibano - Moonlight Museum Ver. 1.

Wow, I reeeeeeeeeeally love their groove.

Go Ichinose - Lake
For the nostalgia alone. Special shoutout to the terrible audio quality of this video (the mix is super pumpy, meaning it was sent through a limiter, and too loudly).

This was a very hard set to pick from. Oath to Order, Moonlight Museum and Gate of Steiner all positively surprised me.

I can't believe that I've missed the set containing the Canto Ostinato, but I'm super amazed that it got as high a score as it did! I've been deeply in love with the composition ever since it was introduced to me by my old landlady. We once attended a lie-down concert in a church where Jeroen and Sandra van Veen performed the piece on two pianos; it was a transforming experience, I'll say that much. I also got a signed 12" of a solo performance of the piece by Jeroen there. I've since purchased the score, and intend to at some point do some... relevant things with it. #fim{:B}

Also, just to be clear: the piece has a non-deterministic length. There are 106 sections (only a few of which are non-looping, bridge sections), played in order, and the performers all decide on the spot, on their own accord, in unison, to move on to the next section, without a conductor or somesuch explicitly announcing them moving on (yes, it's a really demanding piece for the performers). It can last 40 minutes (solo piano), but it can just as easily last 4 hours (4 pianos and organ). It's also been performed on a variety of other instruments, such as marimba, vibraphone, harp, electronics, prepared piano, cello, etc.
Men I Trust - Seven (Garage Session)
Hiromi Shibano - Moonlight Museum Ver. 1

Interesting info on Canto Ostinato, thanks for that! I *might* have heard about the piece before actually (or at least the concept of sections chosen on the fly vaguely rings a bell).

This certainly does sound fascinating! I never considered how specific the composition could be played when multiple people are involved or not.
