MGMT - Siberian Breaks
Hiroki Kikuta - Rabite Forest (Powell)

--------------------

List Soundtrack - List Hacks

Mega Man X3 OSTs
This set's picks are as following from me...
  • Orange Range - Monkey Magic
  • duuzu - Blow My Speakers Up

And more commentary...
  • I'll confess on Orange Range - Monkey Magic... I ended up thinking of a parody karaoke cover. Although a bit heavier on the rock (the latter two were more chilled out in their execution), I determined it defeated MGMT - Siberian Breaks and Chuck Salamone & Mason Lindroth - Xeno Arcadia. That's a nice, funky song!
  • duuzu - Blow My Speakers Up actually got a chuckle out of me once I began hearing some sounds that I certainly wasn't expecting... old-school Minecraft hurt sound, and Mario. Well done for submitting a "rip"! I ended up picking this over Hideki Okugawa - Twilight (Ibuki's Theme) and ZUN - Interdimensional Voyage of a Ghostly Passenger Ship.
  • MGMT - Siberian Breaks joins the ranks of Panda Bear - Good Girl / Carrots from preliminary set H in similarity... except I felt Good Girl/Carrots was more unique in its execution.
Chuck Salamone & Mason Lindroth - Xeno Arcadia
Hiroki Kikuta - Rabite Forest (Powell)

--------------------
Tough call this set. It was down to a top three so I just had to pick which two had me grooving to the music more than the other haha~

1. Chuck Salamone & Mason Lindroth - Xeno Arcadia: Unbelievably catchy. This song is almost too good to be part of a video game OST. I'd pay money to see this song performed live.

2. MGMT - Siberian Breaks: This sounds super nice. I really like the vocals. Soft but they still cut through. The pace change at 8:21 was fantastic. The drums become punchy and clear, and the other instruments tighten up around them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hideki Okugawa - Twilight (Ibuki's Theme): This song made me feel like I was playing the game. It's good. I like it. The wind instrument had a lovely sound to it.

duuzu - Blow My Speakers Up: It was alright for what it was. It's not really my style of music, but I did like the drums. The recognizable sound effects were kinda cool too.

Orange Range - Monkey Magic: Weird song made by some weird Japanese guys. I gotta admit it was kinda catchy though.

ZUN - Interdimensional Voyage of a Ghostly Passenger Ship: The keyboards and bass sound neat.

MarStarBro - VS Sonic.exe (Endless): I was surprised that I found myself enjoying this. But it's actually put together pretty well and manages to not just sound like a meme song...

Hiroki Kikuta - Rabite Forest (Powell): Very relaxing little tune. All the instruments compliment this.
ZUN - Interdimensional Voyage of a Ghostly Passenger Ship
Hiroki Kikuta - Rabite Forest (Powell)
ZUN - Interdimensional Voyage of a Ghostly Passenger Ship
Hiroki Kikuta - Rabite Forest (Powell)

--------------------

Hideki Okugawa - Twilight (Ibuki's Theme) | this is some jungle shit and it rocks
MGMT - Siberian Breaks | i mean. yeah. its like one of their best songs ever.

duuzu - Blow My Speakers Up | i don't really understand what this is contextually but just as music its a pretty well made mix. the sampling of keshas tiktok kinda just made me want to listen to that instead though.
Orange Range - Monkey Magic | funky and groovy but not enough to win my heart.
ZUN - Interdimensional Voyage of a Ghostly Passenger Ship | its touhou
MarStarBro - VS Sonic.exe (Endless) | um i mean it's fine but i don't really like listening to just this on its own.
Hiroki Kikuta - Rabite Forest (Powell) | it's still a very good game ost and the remaster is pretty nice still. i kinda prefer the originals though?
Chuck Salamone & Mason Lindroth - Xeno Arcadia | what an absolutely funky and groovy song. in a less stacked set this'd be a top 2.
1. Hideki Okugawa - Twilight (Ibuki's Theme) (EXTREMELY obvious pick to me, how did you know I absolutely fucking adore this goddamn OST you fucking rascal LMAO; funny thing is I actually wanted to submit a 3rd Strike song as well, though not this one specifically, but still, very, very good choice lol)

2. MGMT - Siberian Breaks (honestly, I wasn't going to nominate this since it just felt far too long for my tastes and was even going to say this is one of the weaker songs in this set... but the sound design and soundscape in general is extremely cool and very immersive, so fuck it, it's good damnit.)

3. Orange Range - Monkey Magic (pretty nice honestly, love this kinda shit a lot, but personally it's also kind of generic too, which while I wouldn't normally complain, compared to the tracks I voted for it certainly sticks like a sore thumb lol)

4. duuzu - Blow My Speakers Up (I forgot this was even a KFAD thing LOL; but yeah, very cool Hideki Naganuma/Jet Set Radio inspired track and all around a very funky fresh tune, but yeah, it didn't win me over as much for a vote sadly)

5. Chuck Salamone & Mason Lindroth - Xeno Arcadia (pretty nice. I assume this is for a town theme of some kind? either way, although the bass sounds like someone had one too many tacos at Taco Bell and is shitting himself in the toilet right about now, it's cool shit, just yeah, not enough for a vote, yada yada yada or whatever)

6. Hiroki Kikuta - Rabite Forest (Powell) (just a heads up btw, but AFAIK Kikuta didn't have any actual involvement in the Trials of Mana Remake arrangements, he's just credited as the composer, so the arranger should be credited as well; according to VGMdb, the arranger for this particular one is by Ryo Yamazaki, so uh. yeah. anyway, not exactly my favorite Seiken Densetsu 3 track, but it's certainly up there... if only the other themes weren't so much better in pretty much every single way LOL)

7. ZUN - Interdimensional Voyage of a Ghostly Passenger Ship (oddly enough, if this set in general wasn't as solid as it is, I would've actually considered voting for this lmao; always personally liked this over Murasa's theme anyway, but yeah, this set is just that good, so I guess I'm not voting for the 2hu track once again #smrpg{mlem} btw nice Windows XP sound effect there ZUN lel)

8. MarStarBro - VS Sonic.exe (Endless) (it's fine I suppose. could be worse, and again, in a less solid set it could have had more of a chance... but yeah, that wasn't the case, so, yeah)

MGMT - Siberian Breaks (I've liked previous MGMT nominations but this one's just on a whole other level. Really got start looking into their music more.)
Chuck Salamone & Mason Lindroth - Xeno Arcadia (really good, also don't wanna deal with a tiebreak)

Really good set overall. Ibuki's Theme was a really really close third.

MY TWO CHOICES:

1. ORANGE RANGE - MONKEY MAGIC
2. ZUN - INTERDIMENSIONAL VOYAGE OF A GHOSTLY PASSENGER SHIP

1. An Endless Sporadic - Impulse
2. Jordan Rudess - Why I Dream

3. David Gates - Suite: Clouds and Rain
4. Chris Geddes - Distant Shores
5. John Coltrane - Venus
6. The Band - Up On Cripple Creek
7. Yasunori Mitsuda - Activate Burning Phase
8. Dilly Dally - Know Yourself

yeah my nomination is not going to make it through LOL, top 6 or so are all great
1. Jordan Rudess - Why I Dream: OK!
2. The Band - Up On Cripple Creek: Another one of my nominations. The whole thing is really chill, and that "wah wah" instrument that plays throughout the song is just really satisfying to listen to.
---------------
3. An Endless Sporadic - Impulse: This one's solid.
4. David Gates - Suite: Clouds and Rain: Alright song, but I probably would've liked it a lot more if it ended after the first half
5. Chris Geddes - Distant Shores: This song fits the adventurous Pokémon vibe it seems to be going for, but it's also not very interesting.
6. John Coltrane - Venus: I have a lot of respect for John Coltrane but this is literally one of the funniest songs I've ever heard
7. Dilly Dally - Know Yourself: It took me a few seconds to realize what this song actually is. Absolutely horrendous remix, but it's also hilarious
8. Yasunori Mitsuda - Activate Burning Phase: Really repetitive and boring.

--------------------
Check out my WIP romhack!
why i dream - king. blows everything else in this set completely out of the water, zero competition lol
activate burning phase - hell yeah this song rules

-

impulse - why is every song in this set like 5 different songs (the individual parts of this are good but they arent cohesive like at all)
suite: clouds and rain - pretty good, but its like 5 different songs
venus - coltrane is good and this song does some real cool stuff but there isnt enough meat to make it something i would listen to
distant shores - this one is also like 5 different songs but not as cool as the other ones that are 5 songs
up on cripple creek - its fine

know yourself - yeah no this is unlistenable

FOR AN IMPORTANT SITUATION, I WILL NOT BE HERE BETWEEN 24 DECEMBER - 24 JUNE. I HOPE I CAN BACK.

I couldn't find anything to write :| By the way my Youtube channel
Time for my next set of picks. Although sometimes they get blurry, I've found myself actually interested in going for these, mostly because these kind of tourneys are kind of like America's Got Talent: I see plenty of variety to start with. Unlike the show, though, the same songs move on to the next round, which for me means that if I can remember the ones that make it through, sometimes I don't have to do it again.

  • Jordan Rudess - Why I Dream
  • An Endless Sporadic - Impulse
The Band - Up On Cripple Creek
