cosmic slop - this is really good, easily best of the set
final battle - high tier snes song, always liked this one

-

weapons factory - classic
74 - it's good
glitterdance - not super into it, but makes pretty good use of the tuning and is well produced
boys at school - i would rate this higher if it were instrumental, it's not a bad song but i dislike the vocals
i wonder if heaven's got a ghetto - again, i dont like the vocals. too low and distracting. otherwise its not bad

katy song - the last 3 minutes as a song on their own would have gotten a higher rating from me but the first 5 make the whole song not worth listening to

soundcloud / bandcamp / twitter / battle of the bits / buy our album
1. Itoki Hana (feat. Toby Fox) - 74
2. DJ Screw - I Wonder If Heaven Got A Ghetto

3. Hideyuki Shimono and Akihito Okawa - Final Battle [Dolucky no Puzzle Tour '94]
4. Funkadelic - Cosmic Slop
5. Zhea Erose - Glitterdance
6. SPELLLING - Boys at School
7. Yoko Shimomura - Weapons Factory
8. Red House Painters - Katy Song

I guess???
1. Yoko Shimomura - Weapons Factory (oh yeah, very obvious choice here for sure, always loved this Yoko track in particular, and if you know me and my love for drums/complex rhythms, you can probably tell why I like this as much as I do lol; odd time signatures are cool :D)

2. DJ Screw - I Wonder If Heaven Got A Ghetto (damn, nice lol; don't normally tend to be into this kinda thing, but credit where it's due, it's pretty damn good, nice and chill too haha)

3. Hideyuki Shimono and Akihito Okawa - Final Battle [Dolucky no Puzzle Tour '94] (damn, fucked up track lmao; would've voted for this, but sadly the above tracks were a bit better for me, but still, very solid third place for sure :P)

4. Zhea Erose - Glitterdance (not bad at all honestly, very cool microtonal thing in general lol; but yeah, wasn't as good as the other tracks sadly or whatever)

5. Funkadelic - Cosmic Slop (ehh, not too bad I guess, but honestly I dunno if it impressed me as much as I would've liked, sorry lol)

6. Itoki Hana (feat. Toby Fox) - 74 (...huh. honestly, I just thought this was going to be a secret Undertale track or something else from one of Toby's games with a weirdly non-descriptive title, but if there was anything I would be expecting, it certainly isn't a full-on fucking anime track made by Toby, in fact I'd say it's far from what I would expect from Toby at all LOL; but other than that, ehh, it isn't too bad I guess)

7. Red House Painters - Katy Song (didn't do all that much for me)

8. SPELLLING - Boys at School (didn't do all that much for me, also it's slightly more boring compared to the above track)

1. Itoki Hana (feat. Toby Fox) - 74: Hey that was pretty cool.

2. Hideyuki Shimono and Akihito Okawa - Final Battle [Dolucky no Puzzle Tour '94]: This song gave me anxiety. So that must count towards something.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

DJ Screw - I Wonder If Heaven Got A Ghetto: No it doesn't.

Red House Painters - Katy Song: This one didn't really capture my attention. It's not bad, but it didn't hook me either.

Yoko Shimomura - Weapons Factory: That was definitely video game music.

Zhea Erose - Glitterdance: This is pretty cool for having been made "in one sitting" as the creator said. But it doesn't really go anywhere.

SPELLLING - Boys at School: This is the set of muted and generally uninteresting songs, I guess.

Funkadelic - Cosmic Slop: I like the percussion section.
Funkadelic - Cosmic Slop (whoever isnt voting this has been dancin with the devil)
DJ Screw - I Wonder If Heaven Got A Ghetto (definitely the other song i liked the best)

(SPELLLING was alright but didnt quite stick, shout outs to weapons factory)

DJ Screw - I Wonder If Heaven Got A Ghetto
Red House Painters - Katy Song

e: shoutout to sacred bones records tho

Yoko Shimomura - Weapons Factory
Itoki Hana (feat. Toby Fox) - 74

--------------------

SPELLLING - Boys at School : I was interested pretty much as soon as the song started. I love the vocals and atmosphere that the song presents. The majority of the longer songs in this tournament have felt like a chore but these seven minutes went by fast. Really enjoyed it, gonna look at the band and album now

DJ Screw - I Wonder If Heaven Got A Ghetto : Great vibe. I added this to my late night playlist

-----

Funkadelic - Cosmic Slop : Takes third place behind DJ Screw. I like this one too, but I just can’t really get into the vibe as much as I can for DJ Screw.

Yoko Shimomura - Weapons Factory : Boring and has like a six second loop. Why do people submit stuff like this?

Zhea Erose - Glitterdance : Learning that this song was made in one attempt makes it neat but doesn’t make it any better. I don’t really hate it and I think this is like, a cool barebones concept for a song but this is borderline just humming and drone sounds.

Itoki Hana (feat. Toby Fox) - 74: I don’t really think that is boring but it’s really nothing special. It doesn’t help that the lyrics are corny as shit.

Hideyuki Shimono and Akihito Okawa - Final Battle [Dolucky no Puzzle Tour '94]: More contextless VGM yay

Red House Painters - Katy Song: 2005 doomer music
DJ Screw - I Wonder If Heaven Got A Ghetto - One of the best dj screw tracks, a combination of screws amazing sound style, voice effects, and potent lyricism from tupac. This song is about police brutality and the LA Riots, but a lot of the time it sounds like tupac is talking about the George Floyd protests from last year. The parallels hit extra hard when tupac and dj screw both died well over 20 years ago. (fun fact: george floyd rapped with dj screw in the 90s as Big Floyd)
SPELLLING - Boys at School - this is the album of the year, for one anthony fantano gave it a 10,
------------------------
Funkadelic - Cosmic Slop - cosmic slop is such a gross sounding phrase lol, love the middle-end. Good track
Hideyuki Shimono and Akihito Okawa - Final Battle [Dolucky no Puzzle Tour '94] - i fully expected to hate this addition, well its based #wario{:]}
Red House Painters - Katy Song - i just want to listen to swans hearing the vocals, not a bad track tho. Apparently the singers a huge loser
Yoko Shimomura - Weapons Factory - mario rpgs OST is definitely one of my favorites on the system, this song is ok but i would not listen to it on its own
Itoki Hana (feat. Toby Fox) - 74 - besides this being a departure of normal toby fox stuff i did not find this special
Zhea Erose - Glitterdance - i liked the instrumentals at the beginning but once the vocals are introduced it becomes a mess
SET BB RESULTS:
DJ Screw - I Wonder If Heaven Got A Ghetto (8)
SPELLLING - Boys at School (7)

Yoko Shimomura - Weapons Factory (4)
Red House Painters - Katy Song (3)
Zhea Erose - Glitterdance (3)
Itoki Hana (feat. Toby Fox) - 74 (3)
Hideyuki Shimono and Akihito Okawa - Final Battle [Dolucky no Puzzle Tour '94] (3)
Funkadelic - Cosmic Slop (3) [yes, that really is a five-way tie for 4th]

List Soundtrack - List Hacks

Mega Man X3 OSTs
1. Django Django - Reflections: This song and this music video are both extremely based
2. Hampton Grease Band - Six: See, the thing about this song is that it constantly oscillates between really cool and really annoying. Leans more towards cool by the end of it, though.
---------------
3. Tristan Alric - Transcending, Overpowering, Everlasting: This one kind of disappointed me. The intro is REALLY good, but it just gets really bland after that. Still, it's one of the better songs in this set.
4. Yoko Shimomura - Dearly Beloved: I generally haven't been a fan of songs like this in this tourney, but this one was nice (if a bit repetitive).
5. Fazıl SAY - Kara Toprak, Black Earth, Op. 08: The up-tempo parts were cool, otherwise this was meh
6. Van Dyke Parks - It's A 'B' Movie: This was okay, but not something I'd come back to. The music video was honestly the most interesting part (although I will say that I found the visual of the fan flying away while going "AHHHHHHHHHHH" really funny for some reason). I've heard The Brave Little Toaster is a good movie...one that has also traumatized many children that have seen it :P
7. Soft Girl - Boo Hoo: The song itself is fine but the music doesn't sound good at all. There were bands in my high school that I'd rather listen to than this.
8. Nik Kershaw - Wouldn't It Be Good: Incredibly boring

Check out my WIP romhack!
Yōko Shimomura - Dearly Beloved
Soft Girl - Boo Hoo

--------------------

Here are my picks...
  • Tristan Alric - Transcending, Overpowering, Everlasting
  • Fazıl SAY - Kara Toprak, Black Earth, Op. 08

And some commentary...
  • I recognize that kind of execution for Tristan Alric - Transcending, Overpowering, Everlasting, however, I gave it the slot since I thought it was more notable overall than the others. I see a pretty decent contender here!
  • Fazıl SAY - Kara Toprak, Black Earth, Op. 08 is a more unexpected thought to run into my head... initially I didn't think much of it. But for whatever reason, something... a bit jazzy caught my ears at around 3 minutes, even though it didn't last long.
Fazıl SAY - Kara Toprak, Black Earth, Op. 08
Soft Girl - Boo Hoo
Soft Girl - Boo Hoo
Django Django - Reflections

--------------------

Hampton Grease Band - Six (most interesting song even if i dont really like it much)
Fazıl SAY - Kara Toprak, Black Earth, Op. 08 (almost a dice roll between anything else this set)

--------------------
1. Hampton Grease Band - Six (damn, this sounds kinda Zappa-ish IMO, pretty nice lol)

2. Yōko Shimomura - Dearly Beloved (sounds like a Xenoblade night song lol, which alone is enough to vote for since I love the style those tracks go for, but yeah, in general this is a very calming track. dig this a lot)

3. Tristan Alric - Transcending, Overpowering, Everlasting (this is pretty good honestly, liking the guitar sounds in particular, but frankly the sound design sounds pretty damn cheap in, like, every other department, which is a huge turnoff IMO)

4. Fazıl SAY - Kara Toprak, Black Earth, Op. 08 (ngl, I kind of like how the pianist really seems like he's having a blast fiddling around with the piano, but sadly this just sounds too repetitive for my liking)

5. Van Dyke Parks - It's A 'B' Movie (definitely has that Disney vibe honestly, especially considering I'm not aware of the original movie at all and yet I still recognized it as a Disney movie song almost instantly lol; definitely better than I was expecting too, but otherwise not that remarkable)

6. Django Django - Reflections (good, but didn't grab my attention too much sadly)

7. Nik Kershaw - Wouldn't It Be Good (ehh, 80s sounding song thingy I guess, not too bad... but not good either. also damn y'all really weren't lying with the song upload being pretty low-quality, this doesn't sound good at all LOL)

8. Soft Girl - Boo Hoo (kinda boring IMO)
