1. Everything Everything - MY KZ, UR BF (damn, really cool harmony here, what the heck lmao; was just thinking this was going to be a very basic rock song or something, but nope, they just had to hit me with the complex and rich harmony and chords huh... synths are very cool too, gives me a slight Sonic Riders vibe for some reason, all around a pretty cool song haha)

2. Takahiro Unisuga - Desert After Tears (ehh, what the heck, finna nominate this one as well, just cuz this one feels the least sterile out of the bunch I guess; not that it's bad or anything, just that I wouldn't vote for it if the set was just a bit more stacked, which isn't the case here, so... yeah)

3. Immortal Technique - The Poverty of Philosophy (honestly, I actually relate pretty hard to the lyrics here, especially since Brazil's situation isn't too far off from a lot of Latin American countries anyway; if lyrics alone were enough to vote for a song I would've likely voted for it, but yeah, it doesn't have much musical content going for it since all there is is a fairly simple beat as the backing LOL)

...yeah, I dunno if I'm going to bother with descriptions for most of the other songs honestly; I'm just really not a fan of this set at all, and most of it would likely just be filled with "it's good, but not good enough" comments again, so fuck it, I'll keep it brief #smrpg{gdi}

seeing which songs got the most votes so far smwc members obviously have no idea anymore what good music is. Joking of course as taste is purely subjective #tb{XD}

Preliminary Round: Set JJ
ParagonX9 - Metropolis
Atsuki - ATHENA
Koji Kondo - Dire Dire Docks
Gamadelic - Vapor Trail (Arranged)
Dean Evans & Keith Tinman - Slash Club
Los Hermanos - Último Romance
Hyakutaro Tsukumo - Archaeopteryx
Prince & The Revolution - Purple Rain (Live in Syracuse, New York, 3/30/1985)

--------------------------

We're at the homestretch gang, only three sets of the preliminaries left!

--------------------
This was such a bland set that I actually wound up voting for something that I've been complaining about throughout this whole tourney: a song that literally everyone here has heard before. How the turn tables

1. Los Hermanos - Último Romance: This one's awesome. Gotta say, the selection of Spanish music in this tourney has been pretty solid overall.
(UPDATE: I have just read that this band is actually Brazilian, meaning that this song is in Portuguese, not Spanish. Please forgive my ignorance)
2. Koji Kondo - Dire Dire Docks: I was gonna write a sarcastic comment about how I've never heard this song before, but eh. I must say, though, out of all the songs you could've picked from Super Mario 64, this was probably the best choice. It's a good song.
---------------
3. Gamadelic - Vapor Trail (Arranged): This is the most background-y anime-esque music I've ever heard...that is, until the last 2 minutes or so comes in. That part's really good, even though it doesn't fit the rest of the song whatsoever. I wonder if there's a video of just that part by itself.
4. Prince & The Revolution - Purple Rain (Live in Syracuse, New York, 3/30/1985): I can't say I see the appeal of these 20 minute long live concert recordings, especially not for a music tourney (besides maybe the Dream Theater one that showed up a while back). This one is particularly questionable to me because Prince doesn't even start singing until like 6 minutes in, and everything before that is just the song intro over and over. I'm also just not a huge fan of Purple Rain in general, so...meh. All of that being said, the fact that this is still in the top half of my votes says a lot about this set :V
5. Dean Evans & Keith Tinman - Slash Club: I suppose this is catchy, but it's also very bland
6. Atsuki - ATHENA: This is the second most background-y anime-esque music I've ever heard (except it doesn't have the cool guitar part at the end)
7. ParagonX9 - Metropolis: I'm VERY familiar with ParagonX9 because of how overused their songs are in Geometry Dash, but I mostly know stuff like the Chaoz songs, Blue Marine, and Red 13. With all of that in mind, I actually had no idea they made chiptune outside of an 8-bit remix of Chaoz Fantasy. As for this song, it's...just kinda there. It's not very remarkable. I've heard far better old chiptune songs (ex. Running Through Castles by Jayster).
8. Hyakutaro Tsukumo - Archaeopteryx: Absolutely not

My In-Progress Hack

This round was really tough. I was undecided about many music but finally I was able to choose it #smw{^_^;}

1 - Koji Kondo - Dire Dire Docks
2 - Atsuki - ATHENA

'My Other Favorite Music'

ParagonX9 - Metropolis
Gamadelic - Vapor Trail (Arranged)
Los Hermanos - Último Romance
Hyakutaro Tsukumo - Archaeopteryx

FOR AN IMPORTANT SITUATION, I WILL NOT BE HERE BETWEEN 24 DECEMBER - 24 JUNE. I HOPE I CAN BACK.
-----

I couldn't find anything to write :| By the way my Youtube channel
1. Atsuki - ATHENA
2. Los Hermanos - Último Romance

Honorable mention goes to Dire, Dire Docks.

--------------------
What is a Lunar Magic, and can I eat it?
Los Hermanos - Último Romance (rocks)
Atsuki - ATHENA (pretty good)

would've voted prince but found the live version too drawn out for my tastes

--------------------
1. Gamadelic - Vapor Trail (Arranged) (solid arrangement of an amazing track, what can I say lol; the Sega Genesis version of this is honestly one of my favorite Genesis songs as well, so yeah. pretty much a no-brainer for me haha)

2. Atsuki - ATHENA (I don't know if this is either supposed to be an arrangement of a Gradius track or just the original song, and if this is an arrangement, wtf kinda track this is arranging, but otherwise this is damn cool, feels sorta fusiony as well, and I normally tend to be into this sorta music so fuck it lol; also unrelated, but the organ tone at 0:56 kinda has a similar sound to SMW's distorted guitar sample in some parts, it's kinda funny to me)

3. Hyakutaro Tsukumo - Archaeopteryx (ngl, I actually kinda dig how cacophonic this feels honestly; feels extremely dreadful and intense, and definitely gives me some strong imagery of a battalion getting their ass handed to them by the enemy's most powerful weapon, very war-like for sure... not necessarily something I would listen on my spare time tho LMAO)

4. Koji Kondo - Dire Dire Docks (honestly, this song is overrated as all hell, but I never really disliked this one all that much either, it's definitely a lot less boring than most other Mario songs and holds some merit... but honestly, there are still better songs to choose from anyway, even in Mario itself, plus I always felt like Koji Kondo never was a very good fit for the series anyway, and that he really should just leave the job of composing for Mario to Nintendo's other composers, but that's probably just me :P)

5. ParagonX9 - Metropolis (Megaman AF LOL, straight up feels like some of the Megaman style compositions Kevvviiinnn did quite a few years back that weren't tied to any specific game or project, which I guess seeing the name of who made it, I guess it sorta makes sense haha; anyway, not too bad, and definitely very faithful to the NES MM games, but in general classic MM music doesn't impress me all that much outside of 8 and & Bass nowadays, so. yeah. #smrpg{ohno})

6. Los Hermanos - Último Romance (hmm, acho que já ouvi falar dessa banda de alguém aqui... além disso, não acho que é tão boa assim, mas não é ruinzinha não, essa aí só não me pegou de jeito como as outras nominações aí :V yes I wanted to speak Portuguese for this one as well, fuck y'all gringos who don't like it >:[ (jk))

7. Dean Evans & Keith Tinman - Slash Club (well, I assume this isn't Dean who made this, cuz this sounds... sorta bland for it to be something he'd do lol; I know this sounds kinda mean, but I really expected more from this knowing how good his music is, so. meh.)

8. Prince & The Revolution - Purple Rain (Live in Syracuse, New York, 3/30/1985) (ehh, it's just whatever. also I had to use another link to listen to it as well since the one that was nominated didn't work out for me, so there's that as well I guess :V)

MY TWO CHOICES:

PERFECT!!
1. Atsuki – ATHENA
2. Los Hermanos - Último Romance: Cool and beautiful!

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

GREAT!
3. Koji Kondo - Dire Dire Docks: Not gonna lie, I love this song and I’ve known it for a long time, but my two choices have something that make them better for me.
4. Hyakutaro Tsukumo – Archaeopteryx: I found it very intense and I’m surprised by the way its strange sound combination can create a suspenseful atmosphere, so I liked it.
5. Gamadelic - Vapor Trail (Arranged)

AND THE OTHER SONGS:

GooD
6. Prince & The Revolution - Purple Rain (Live in Syracuse, New York, 3/30/1985):[Small Fry] I love this music genre, but it is unnecessary to make this song last 16 minutes. I got just a little bit bored, not at all.

ALMOST
7. Dean Evans & Keith Tinman - Slash Club

I prefer not to put Metropolis since I nominated that song.

I'm realizing with this thread that, besides my taste for retro, old and videogames music, I have a little strange musical taste. #wario{...}#fim{XD}#fim{:]}

--------------------
Almost missed this one, mostly because my immune system was given a dry run through a booster shot, which reduced the amount of time I was on my computer.

My picks...
  • Gamadelic - Vapor Trail (Arranged)
  • Hyakutaro Tsukumo - Archaeopteryx

Commentary...
  • Koji Kondo - Dire Dire Docks is the most familiar song on this list for me, since I have the actual cartridge for Super Mario 64. I like that you went for the version that basically includes all of the variants you can hear in the game.
  • Gamadelic - Vapor Trail (Arranged) contained a little bonus section after about four minutes... which was a factor in me giving it the slot over Los Hermanos - Último Romance, Prince & The Revolution - Purple Rain (Live in Syracuse, New York, 3/30/1985) and Atsuki - ATHENA, specifically.
  • Hyakutaro Tsukumo - Archaeopteryx falls under the more... what in the world is going on here?... section. I actually unexpectedly chose this song over the remaining three because of a deadlock, which included my own nomination, Dean Evans & Keith Tinman - Slash Club.
My choices are:
  1. Atsuki - ATHENA
(Exactly the real winner for this set. No one can stop thi—[gets his clothes ripped into shreds] GAME OVER)
  2. Los Hermanos - Último Romance
(It's a Brazilian Portuguese song. Don't even ask.)
“What’s that, Pocoyo? Are you trying to think of words to describe it?”

Honorable mentions:
  • Koji Kondo - Dire Dire Docks
  • Hyakutaro Tsukumo - Archaeopteryx
  • Gamadelic - Vapor Trail (Arranged)

“YAAAARGH!!! I can’t decide! I just can’t decide!!”
