What happens when five fans of Super Mario World and Touhou Project come together to make a hack?



Super Mario World with Touhou elements mixed in, of course! Aside from the usual platforming and exploration of strange lands, Mario now has to focus and dodge bullets fired by familiar foes as the Mushroom Kingdom gets dragged into a new incident. Naturally, we had to come up with a fun name for this Gensokyo-esque adventure and thus, here we are.

This is both something I've always wanted to play
and, tbh, a thing I've always wanted to make something similar to.


Getting any kinda touhou style bullet pattern stuff into smw is already a rly cool achievement, but it looks like you managed to get *all* of the mechanics fused with smw somehow? I can't wait to play this.
Jumping pirahna plant spitting a mouthful of ping pong balls is my new favourite thing.
I'm a fan of both Super Mario World and Touhou Project at heart, and this IS the hack that I've been waiting for months. Can't wait to play this hack AND share it to everyone in the world!

Well it worked for me and it was AMAZING!!!! I highly recommend this one!
I really don't want to say anything else, it's good, just go and play it. Also it's HARD. Like really, but it doesn't feel unfair in the slightest. I enjoyed it.

I'm only a few levels in, but I'm loving it so far. The different enemy types are so fun to experience, I love seeing all the different little evil enemies
Small bug in your hack: the final boss' HP bar lacks priority, so bullets goes in front of it.

Also, I noticed in the credits.txt, you used a status bar remover, was wondering, was the new HUD thing coded in scratch? If so, was it at the same address where that patch hijack?

While overall a lot of fun to play, the bullet/fireball clusters are a bit spammy sometimes. Also, I feel like the level designs rewarded going as fast as possible slightly too much; I would've loved more variation instead. That being said, I still had a great time dodging all the projectiles.

HP bar priority issue was known but I didn't have time last second to spend energy fixing it. We patched the statusbar remover initially so we could have more screen space in general then I built the custom statusbar ontop of it, so it uses alot of its address hijack locations.

I do think this kinda design can result in that easily, I'd argue its more a result of limited time working with and experimenting with the design given the limit of the contest, and I'm glad with what came out given the time limit. But i do think there'd be alot more interesting results if we did more analyzing playthrus and stuff.

I just played this yesterday. I loved the integration of danmaku bullets in SWM and the Touhou references and style in general.

The levels were fun, and the danmaku didn't feel unfair, except maybe for some parts in the second level after the midboss, but other than that, I was able to clear most of the hack without focusing.
