The square hitbox of the vanilla spikes always bothered me, so it's nice to see a much more realistic version. Seeing the spike visualized by the set bits in the hitbox table is a pretty cool little thing too.
A hitbox spike very good!
Check out my WIP romhack!
Oh, this one's definitely useful! Wonky hitboxes are always one of the things to bother me immensely in any hack I play. In hindsight, seems kinda surprising that no one attempted to do this yet.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
No longer will a spike's menacing aura somehow hurt you! Maybe it still doesn't make sense that the face of a cone can still injure Mario but whatever, it's great.

You should try to have two spikes side by side and jump in the space between them - that would really sell the effect, since otherwise the fast-paced gifs make it feel like a spike that doesn't act solid.

Other Submissions of mine!

the way the hitbox is constructed is amazing and can be edited for very evil purposes
That's actually a great idea! I was wondering how you pulled it off and imagining some crazy janky hitbox recoding, but just using the player's position inside the block is really dang clever.

Yikes! Very impressive. This kinda reminds me of a recent and similar API created for hurtboxes in SMBX, namely KindaHurtBlock.lua by MrDoubleA. (I'm using that very API in Super Mario Zeal)

What a nice little fix! It looks like people are making trickier hacks these days, so I think these spikes would give the player a bit less of a headache.
This is definitely a improvement since the hitboxes always hurt the player from the sides too.

So simple, yet, so amazing, well done, and most of all, a great idea! I don't know why hasn't anyone else thought of doing this...

Accurate spikes, my beloved <3
The way you arranged SpikeHitbox: made me chuckle 🤭

Now, this is an accurate spike hitbox right off the bat. I was never fond of how SMW handled it (especially with spikes unfairly hurting you from the sides), so this is a very nice spin. Thanks a lot, MFG!
This is GORGEOUS! Now that we can use pixel perfect spikes in future projects soon. Now that's what I call spike improvement!

“Even if you personally are so dissatisfied with life that you want the world to end, surely the cruel reality is that it will continue on, unchanging. All the better for someone perfectly content, like me.”

Finally, one of my biggest complaints with the original SMW has been fixed—the world is just and good again. Even if it isn't technically pixel perfect. Now if this could also fix the stray pixel on the titlescreen logo, then we'd be really talking...
I didn't know it was possible to make more complex hitboxes like this in SMW. I can see it being used a lot in harder hacks, and the custom hitbox would potentially remove some cheap hits in tighter levels.
This great it is. It reminds me of when I made spikes without hitbox and made the ground under them be the actual hazard.
Thanks for stopping Mario get hurt with air #smrpg{y}
Interesting block! Though I wonder what the P-Switches in the GIFs are for? That’s really all I have to ask. I might try this out soon!

I'll get right to the point, nice spike. #smrpg{:D}
