The Mario Brothers

Super Mario WorldStandardWork in ProgressScreenshots

This is a project I kept under the radar for almost two years because I intended on surprise-dropping a demo out of nowhere for the last few C3's. Since I don't really SMW hack a whole lot (or at all really) these days and have almost no sense of level design philosophy whatsoever, I figured I'm just gonna spill it all right here and now. Fuck it. It supposed to be the branded as the "first" Mario game ever (requires some suspension of disbelief obviously), while taking place right before the events of this dead hack of mine (that I don't mind linking here cause no one remembers it anyway).

I probably won't finish it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Level 1-1 and its evolution.

Hammer brother redesign. (SMB1 to the left, mine to the right)

Castle level with its beautifully glitched out enemies.

Another section of the same castle level.

Some other level.

Whatever the fuck this is with its unpolished palettes.

This place ig.

Okay, have a great day, sisters!

I like this concept a lot tbh! I am shocked that you actually made a hack, as well. You were always the mysterious guy who just posts a lot in the Discod.
The way you put these 8-bit graphics together looks so good, loving this "new retro" aesthetic you've got going on. I especially like the look of the cloudy area with the star pillars, as the palette there is simple but the colors work really well together in my opinion. Even if you don't end up finishing this in the long run, it was still a pleasure seeing something you put time and effort into.
Thank you both. And yeah, if nothing else, it's fun to make tilesets even if they won't be used for anything playable.
