Bench's Trash Can

BlockSpritePatch

I post stuff i haven't tested enough but still think is worth sharing. Basically "proceed at your own risk" patches.

You're free to report any problems you encounter with these patches in this thread, that'll help me figure out how to iron them out more.

Look at this shit:

THIS IS NOT A SINE WAVE!!! THIS IS JUST A SICK JOKE. SMW HACKERS DESERVE BETTER.

NOW THAT'S MORE LIKE IT!!!

Download Waves.asm

Clicking the link will only view the file, but you can right click > save link as... on the link, or in the page save page as... and it will download properly.

It uses a bunch of RAM, not unlike the original effect tool, but don't worry, it's as optimized as could be! (i think 🤩)

If you want more than one layer to have waves in your level using this, either use Fernap's UberASM Tool 2.0 which supports multiple files per level, or check this page out.

Benny Harvey RIP, miss you big man.

Finally, some proper Earthbound flavor in this house 👏

tiny bit tasteless

Nothing crazy, this is a script i made to assist with coding so i can easily tell what's going on with sprite slots in SMW (and other games i guess.)

OAM slot watch for Mesen 2.0.0

ROMs in the gif:
an SA-1 SMW ROM
a LoROM SMW ROM
Umihara Kawase

You can see how the original SMW ROM's OAM is all over the place and is the worst one out of all three, which is understandable! They had a deadline and all that. But this is one of the reasons patching SA-1 is encouraged.

As you know, two days ago i've released my Alternative L/R Scrolling patch, which improves upon L/R scrolling to make it more responsive etc.

However i wasn't quite done yet with this since i wanted vertical scrolling as well, so i've used yoshifanatic's Vertical Camera Panning as a base to start with since i don't know a particularly good way to do vertical scrolling.

So once i modified their code enough i came up with this:

Download camcontrol.zip

I don't know how i feel about submitting a hybrid patch that's half mine and half another person's (which is mostly modified). So i've decided to post this here instead of submit it.

The .zip file also includes an UberASM file to disable vertical and/or horizontal scrolling in a level.
Enjoy #tb{:]}

Looks cool! I could definitely see this being useful for people who want to make a level feel more adventurous than a typical Mario level. If you do want to submit that, you could try getting in contact with yoshifanatic to see if they're okay with it, as they are still active. You could try reaching them through PMs here, or they do have a discord server linked in their profile as well.
