File Name: Cave/Castle
Added:
Authors: yno14jax
Type: Original
Purpose: Foreground
Slots Used:
Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: Cave GFX I made. It was intended to be for a cave, but with a gray palette it could be used for a castle. No custom palette required and it works with FG palette 3. No credit needed.
Includes MAP16 page.

Unfortunately this submission isn't up to our current quality standards. It doesn't particularly look like a cave or a castle tileset, instead looking like a harshly dithered visibly-repeating pattern. The edges don't read as solid due to the lack of shading on them either. It's just particularly hard to discern.

Unfortunately, these graphics are not up to the standards. Not only the ceiling looks flat, but the way that the shading and dithering is done doesn't look like a cavern. The palette choice isn't also fantastic, because it's too dark. The geometry overall is a bit poor too. It lacks detail and looks too simple. Both submissions are the same, which means that one is a duplicate.

File Name: Mickey Mania - Lonesome Ghosts
Added:
Authors: cheat-master30
Type: Ripped
Purpose: Foreground
Slots Used:
Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: A ripped foreground tileset of Mickey Mania's "Lonesome Ghosts" level
Tags: haunted, house, needs remoderation
Screenshots:

This rip has some serious issues regarding usability and accuracy.

Some of the objects have wrong colors like the couch, the lamps, the mirrors and etc. Aside from that, it's not assembled in a good way. You also need to use 4 EXGFX to use these big decorations. The greatest offenders are the pillars, which have the wrong color and how weirdly anything in this tileset is combined. Compared to the original game, it's a lackluster rip.

File Name: Mickey Mania - The Mad Doctor
Added:
Authors: cheat-master30
Type: Ripped
Purpose: Background
Slots Used:
Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: Updater warning; This background uses all of BG1, BG2, BG3, and a bit of FG2!

A background from Mickey Mania.
Tags: castle, needs remoderation
Screenshots:

The chains ARE NOT part of the background and the background is "simple" by nature, so it's very weird that it demands four EXGFX slots. Suffers from cutoff in the bottom part, as well, which makes using this background not worth at all. Compared to the original, it's incomplete and wrongly ripped.

You can find a better rip of this background here! Courtesy of yours truly!

File Name: The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey Mouse - Castle
Added:
Authors: cheat-master30
Type: Ripped
Purpose: Background, Foreground
Slots Used:
Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: Graphics from the Baron's Castle in said game, with a background from the first castle level in The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse.
Tags: castle, needs remoderation
Screenshots:

Mixing background and foregrounds from different games goes against the principle of the Graphics Section. It defeats the purpose of the section being organized and well catalogued. Background is from The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse, meanwhile, foreground is from The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey and Minnie. Not only that, but it's poorly ripped. The mirror is taking a lot of tiles, even though most of them are duplicates. The choice of objects of this tileset is very odd. Both background and foreground clashes between themselves, due to their different styles. This is unreasonable and unacceptable according our Standards.

File Name: Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse - Toy Land
Added:
Authors: cheat-master30
Type: Ripped
Purpose: Background, Foreground, Miscellaneous
Slots Used:
Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: Also includes custom throw block graphic.

This is the full set including a background and works great for a bonus area or switch palace.
Tags: bonus, castle, needs remoderation, throw block
Screenshots:

This tileset is unacceptable due to the clashing nature of mixing assets from two different games for no good reason. For context, foreground comes from the Master System version of The Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, while the background is from the Sega Genesis version. As mentioned in a post above, this goes against the values of the Graphics Section.

File Name: Super Mario All-Stars: Super Mario Bros. 1 - Castle
Added:
Authors: cheat-master30
Type: Ripped
Purpose: Background
Slots Used:
Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: The background used for all castles in Super Mario Bros 1 and 2 (All Stars version) that aren't Bowser's real ones.
Tags: castle, needs remoderation
Screenshots:

Cutoff, some colors missing, poor assembling of the background, wrong tiles and some errors prevent this rip from being an accurate as possible to the source material. Based on these criteria, I consider this a low quality rip and it does not comply with the site standards anymore.

File Name: ActRaiser 2 - Planet
Added:
Authors: cheat-master30
Type: Ripped
Purpose: Background
Slots Used:
Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: From a later level in Act Raiser 2.
Tags: needs remoderation, space
Screenshots:

This rip is mixing foreground elements with the background (the rocks on the far left), which makes it use more tiles than it should. Also, the tilemap is not even complete to begin with. Needless to say, it uses 3 EXGFX files, which means it is badly optimized.

Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: A castle graphics set from Actraiser 2, for those who want a nice golden palace to use in a ROM hack.

I have to delete this rip because it lacks optimization and it's an overall mess. To begin with, we have a big mess in the palettes, which includes duplicate colors, bad palette allocations and would be an enormous work to fix it. Then, the cherry on top of this disaster cake, the GFX files doesn't have any optimization, having a lot of duplicate tiles, which makes the graphics take way too many space for what the tileset offers. The background is also very inaccurate and it's badly ripped.

File Name: ActRaiser 2 - Lovaous Palace
Added:
Authors: cheat-master30
Type: Ripped
Purpose: Background, Foreground

Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: Resubmitted, with full background and foreground graphics, map16, level, etc.

Note: Sprites in screenshots not included.

Same reason as his Stormrook rip of background and foreground. Optimization has been quite bad, with a lot of duplicate tiles in the EXGFX, messy palette management and the background doesn't even work properly, having map 16 tiles scattered across it. And vanilla leftovers in the background gfx file.

File Name: Bubsy - Level 1
Added:
Authors: Hobz
Type: Ripped
Purpose: Background
Slots Used:
Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: credit would be nice.
Tags: grassland, mountain, needs remoderation

Removing this rip due to the lack of optimization. Using four palette rows is a big no-no. It is possible to reduce the original background to use three palette rows.

I'm planning to give a more accurate rip to this background in the near future. Actually, no, I'm not!

Rykon's version is much better, while using three palette rows, instead of four. The color loss is hard to notice at all and does a better job of saving tiles than the original background. Sometimes, accuraccy isn't everything.

File Name: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island - Unused Abandoned Camp
Added:
Authors: SafeDesire
Type: Ripped
Purpose: Background
Slots Used:
Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: I saw this in the YI ALLGFX and since I've not seen it ripped by anybody else, I decided to. It uses only BG1, uses palette 4, I had to make up how it'd be colored. credits not necessary. :)

Also, a sample level's included.

Removing this submission for the following reasons:

This is a made-up, non-existent background made from graphics from the unused/scrapped Yoshi's Island minigames. You can see it is mostly composed by the graphics seen here, but poorly colored/ripped, which also breaks the section's core values.

File Name: Wario Land 4 - Toy Block Tower (Exterior)
Added:
Authors: cheat-master30
Type: Ripped
Purpose: Background
Slots Used:
Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: Or for those who haven't played the game, this simple background is pretty much a castle wall with pink sky and clouds. Uses very little space in the ExGFX files and map16.
Tags: castle, needs remoderation
Screenshots:

Sadly, this submission cannot be hosted anymore, mainly because it lacks a crucial file: the EXGFX file itself. And as such, I won't backup this one, since it is literally unusable. So, yeah, anyone is free to do a new rip of this graphic and submit to the site.

It is also using the palette 2, which is not optimal either.
File Name: Top Gear - Rio Brazil
Added:
Authors: Grate
Type: Ripped
Purpose: Background
Slots Used:
Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: The Background of the Track 1 of South America (Rio Brazil). Recommended that you use HDMA Gradient effect and Horizontal Scrolling Slow.

Credit doesn't hurt, don't you think?
Tags: city, mountain, needs remoderation

Removing this submission for the following reasons:

This background is only 2 16x16 tiles height, which makes the possible uses of it very questionable and/or niche. Certainly works for racing games like the source material, but something like this is barely suitable for smw on its own, which breaks section's core values.

File Name: Mega Man: The Wily Wars - Dr. Wily Stage 2 (Mega Man)
Added:
Authors: cheat-master30
Type: Ripped
Purpose: Background, Foreground
Slots Used:
Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: A rip of Wily Stage 2 from the Wily Wars remake of Mega Man 1. Comes with free Astro Man background for those wanting something space/future like to go with the tileset.
Tags: castle, mechanical, needs remoderation, space
Screenshots:

Removed due to the lack of optimization in palettes and GFX space. Not only it has duplicates, but is missing some tiles from the original, like some tiles which gave a small shading to the top part of the yellow wall. And needless to say, mishmash of resources of different games ISN'T allowed. It comes bundled with a Rockman & Forte background. Sample level includes an unidentified map 16 object near the end of the level.

File Name: Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow - Study/Ghost House
Added:
Authors: cheat-master30
Type: Ripped
Purpose: Background, Foreground
Slots Used:
Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: Because good ghost house sets are hard to come by, so here's one of them.

Background from Circle of the Moon, the original one wouldn't fit without patches (and likely not even then with the size of the FG)
Tags: castle, haunted, needs remoderation
Screenshots:
This foreground and background combination are not up to the current standards. Also, unsurprisingly, these rips are not well optimized and have noticeable color losses on them.

First, the rips are lacking colors and are done in a very poor. Second, mixing two different games graphics together is NOT ALLOWED in the Graphics Section.
Optimization wise this is a big mess, map 16 could be a lot better.

And the graphics don't even mesh well together, which make me question "why did this user bother to combine two different artstyles in such a clashy way?"

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon uses a very dark art style. On other hand, Aria of Sorrow uses bright palettes. Mixing both assets together is a big NO-NO.

Backup of this frankenstein abomination here!
File Name: Mega Man & Bass - Astro Man (Space)
Added:
Authors: cheat-master30
Type: Ripped
Purpose: Background, Foreground
Slots Used:
Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: Part of the foreground from the level, anything else would require disabled animations or overwriting the status bar.
Tags: mechanical, needs remoderation, space
Screenshots:

This rip is not up to the current standards due to very bad GFX optimization, inaccuracies found on it, messy palettes and also it is combining the graphic of two games together.

The red spikes are from Mega Man 7, while the rest of the "tileset" (there is barely enough stuff) is from Rockman & Forte.

This is NOT ALLOWED in the Graphics Section. No mixing of two different video games asset in the same submission.

I'll rerip the background myself soon, so expect it be at the Graphics Section at some point of time.

Backup of this very unoptimized rip here!
File Name: Castlevania: Circle of the Moon - Chapel Corridor
Added:
Authors: cheat-master30
Type: Ripped
Purpose: Background, Foreground
Slots Used:
Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: A corridor foreground and background from Castlevania Circle of the Moon. Good for pre boss rooms.
Tags: castle, needs remoderation
Screenshots:
This graphic violates the general guidelines by mixing two different games graphics in one submission and at least two or three more guidelines. The foreground does not belong to Castlevania: Circle of the Moon as it was claimed by the author. Not only that but the palettes are messy, the GFX optimization being outright terrible, with a lot of wasted space and duplicate tiles.

Backup of this messy rip here!
File Name: Castlevania: Circle of the Moon - Chapel
Added:

Type: Ripped
Purpose: Background, Foreground
Slots Used:
Palette Row(s) Used:
Description: FG + BG for the chapel. Fantastic for church levels.

Unfortunately, this background and tileset are terribly optimized. A lot of duplicate tiles in the GFX, meaning the foreground wastes more space than it should. The background itself uses three slots for no good reason than very poor optimization.

From my experience, ripping from spritesheets is a mixed bag. It can work sometimes. But also, if done poorly, they can be inaccurate, as well. For example, a lot of Badbatman's Castlevania or Goemon spritesheets seems to be on the wrong resolution, which tend to cause stuff to use more tiles than they should. Also palette organization of this tileset is quite messy and subpar.

Somewhere in the future, I plan to rip this background and foreground, directly from the game, using native resolution screenshots. But not right now, since my free time is almost gone. Or someone else can do a better rip of this foreground and background and submit in the site as well. Anyone is free to contribute.

Currently as it is, this tileset is unacceptable for today's current standards.

UPDATE: Tileset can be found here!
