I noticed that, unlike other VLDCs, there is no rule about how many sublevels a submission can use. Are there no sublevel restrictions?
is it just me or does this vldc feel very "uncelebratory" compared to 12

In the past this was done to future-proof the contest in case a compilation hack was to be made. At the moment there are no plans to officially compile the entries of this contest into one hack, so the rules that were previously in place to make that an easier task have been abolished.

in the rules it says that we can use up to 10 ExGFX but does this apply to custom backgrounds? for me i would use vanilla backgrounds with other colors

Does recoloring only a part of a tile count as forbidden? Example if I erase a shading I don't like with plain color. The same effect could be performed with using the same colour in 2 adjacent palette cells but simply recoloring saves one cell.

That rule was accidentally carried over from the last contest's iteration of the rules.

If it can be done following this example of what recoloring is, then it is allowed. Otherwise not.

How many musics can we make in one level if never I can make a secondary entrance with another music to search a secret exit?

You can use as many custom music tracks as you want but there's no secret exits allowed in this contest.

As far as I can tell from LM's help file that patch is automatically applied on saving. As LM is the primary tool used to make levels for this contest, whatever it stealth installs in that manner is allowed. It is not mentioned as being part of the base rom as it was not an external patch.

Uh, I think it's very clear that there will no compilation of VLDC13, at least for now.

adding on to nopes answer: recoloring must affect the entirety of any particular 8x8: so, if you are changing 1 color to something else within an 8x8 tile, all instances of that color must be changed. furthermore, you cannot recolor something to a color already used: such as changing color 4 to use color 8, but not changing color 8 to use another color. you cannot combine colors in a tile. so in your example, you would have to use 2 adjacent palette cells with the same color.
you should also not be directly drawing / erasing the 8x8 tiles themselves for recoloring - you should only be using the color remap functions in yychr or graphics editors.

It would be strongly preferred if you did not make your level identifiable in that manner.

The level size can be to your liking. Do keep in mind that a very long level, such as one that would take well over 5 real world minutes to complete in a deahtless run, may be adverse to your score.

Honestly I think I meant to put that in with the rest but it slipped by me. That would be valid under the 4BPP to 2BPP graphic conversion rules regardless.

Due to an oversight, we left the infinity symbol for lives in status bar out of the baserom. If you have already downloaded the baserom and don't want to re-download but would like to use the infinity symbol, apply the following patch with Asar and insert the accompanying graphics file.

To confirm, are you allowed to grab a texture from a tile set and paste it over another texture on another tile set? E.G. If I wanted to add a spiny to an overworld level, where the Monty Mole overwrites that texture, am I allowed to move it there?
