points in SMW hacks

Do you guys think points are necessary in rom hacks?

I know there are a lot of hacks that just remove scoring points off of coins and enemy killing altogether.

Personally I like having a points system. Makes me feel like I'm making progress, and I just like collecting things~ #smrpg{mlem}

They're not necessary but watching numbers go up from stomping on enemies multiple times, or having that number be really big by the end of the hack gives me a strange sense of pleasure

Exactly how I feel.
I just don't feel the same satisfaction jumping on multiple enemies in a row when points aren't being tracked.

Well, in vanilla SMW the score is absolutely useless (unless for a maxscore% speedrun in which it's really boring #smw{-_-Z}).

In SMW hacks, I do think using the score for the gameplay is great and has a lot of potential.
For example: South Point Hotel

810TOXIN (made by one of the creators of South Point Hotel) also has a great usage of points.
I never really saw the point to them.

Eh? Ehhh? No? Okay.
But they are satisfying! There's nothing more satisfying than a legit high score, and by that I mean one that is earned by not abusing possible infinite 1up farms which are unintentionally developed.
