The Werehouse for C3?! (Challenge and Request Thread)

Non-Super Mario WorldArtRequests

Welcome!
Hello there everyone, hope you are all well this C3. I thought for this year I could do something a little different than what I do usually. This being a challenge for you all to try out.

If you have any questions about the game or this thread is a little too hard to understand, please don't be shy to post about it on this thread or DM the question to me on the site or Discord.

The game itself
Before you all get into the meat and potatoes of the challenge, here is some info about it. As some of you know, Me and Cubby have made a game called "The Werehouse". It is inspired by old NAMCO arcade games and some other games of the time with emphasis on werewolves.

The objective of this C3
The challenge for this years C3, if you all hit certain point threholds, I will reward you will certain goals! At the moment, I have decided that hitting 100,000 and above will get you a sprite of any character you think of! (I can decline it if I feel uncomfortable by them and tell you to request another character). If you get above 150,000, i'll think about showing you some unused sprites that were meant to appear in the game but didn't. If I think of anymore I will add them on.

OR you can draw some nice art of the charcters in-game to also get your request done. (please don't rush your art, i'll not take the request and you'll leave me disappointed.)

If you can't draw art, then just play the game and get the highscore.

If you hit any of the above requirements, I will draw the first 10 requests. (If you do both requirements you won't get 2 requests.) The challenge will last until the C3 has fully ended, so after its extra week has been over with.

How to be put up for a reward
If you send a screenshot in the thread of the highscore table and your gameover screen with your score visable, it must also be above the highest score on the default list (which is 20,000 I think?). If this meets the critera above, I will count this as an acceptable score to put on the list, if you have played it before and got a big highscore. Please try and get a better one, using the last one just makes the challenge pointless, (This is not really set in stone yet, so I may change the rules).

Other than that, please have fun with the game and tell us how you feel about it in your post with your score. You can also post multiple times with any new score you got so I can update your score on the table at any point, though you will only get your 100,000 and any other request prize once!

1 out of the 10 Requests have been taken

You two did an amazing job with the graphics and music, The character designs are terribly charismatic, Even you guys dedicated to making different characteristics for them, A Rather small but important detail for the gameplay.
I can't wait to see what else You and Cubby do with this universe of characters#smw{:peace:}
Cheers!!
i will change this eventually

really cool game y'all. Feels nintendo hard with how the gameplay works out, but I enjoyed it quite a bit.
Also love the 2 intermission scenes I managed to see.

oh right and for the art request itself, I would love to see a sprite of Quills

WHAT!?

I can't even begin to believe that someone would be able to get above 100,000 a few hours after I put up the thread, I guess you really are a super player Quills. Please do not feel you have not did enough as well Soon as your score is nothing to scoff at either, in short you two have done well and made me more excited to see others try it.

I'll look at your request some point today Quills with the hopes that I also get it started.

I have also updated the requests, I have taken them down to 10 requests, as I feel it will add a little more of a time sensitive feel to this challenge.

Anyways, I hope you all are having fun with our stupid game, see in another couple of hours and hi Nope if you look in here during the stream.
Thank you and have a nice day

While it's no scorebreaker, it was fun and I think I've started to get the groove of things.
this is the highest score i got for now

Great game !!!! I really loved the sprite of wolves in the game #smrpg{<3}
especially the one with the cup on it's head ☕

Hello anyone who has tried the game, even though C3 is over. You still have a chance to get a request done for the next couple of remaining days.

So get on it!
Thank you and have a nice day

Seeing you and Cubby bring this game to life was a treat, and playing it has always been no different! This thread's presentation is also super nice, I love the unique sprites made for it here.

What is a Lunar Magic, and can I eat it?
This is quite an awesome little game! As a big fan of maze games, chase games, and platformer-puzzle types with limited movement, I found this really fun. I think it's really fun to navigate these simple obstacle courses under a time limit. The huge windup for catching a wolf adds a lot of tension to the game and it feels really good to corner the things and catch them despite my inferior mobility. I wasn't expecting the twist of the even-numbered stages and found them both liberating and thrilling. A really clever game overall, and I enjoyed myself a lot even if I constantly mixed up my buttons and fell off ledges due to my own incompetence.

I wish I could have reached that sweet 100,000 requirement for the request, but I'm proud of this score nonetheless.

You can always try again and upload your score here once you have hit above 100,000. as long as you have the image to prove you didn't cheat at all, I will allow you to upload your score to this thread again. You don't have one try to get to 100,000, if you are done and you think this is an ok score to leave it at then that is fine but you are more than welcome to keep trying to get the 100,000 goal.
Thank you and have a nice day

68,399 was my best score after two attempts. If I have time, I might try some more.

Cool game! You both really captured the feel of 1980s Namco arcade very well with the colorful expressive characters. The basic concept (stop a group of rowdy animals in a building with multiple floors) reminds me of Mappy. The music for the game is really nice too. Sounds like Namco WSG chip music!

The test screen when booting up the game is a nice touch lol.

It can be hard to get used to the slow net swing. I can tell it's meant to be part of the challenge though and the game is balanced around it. Catching the tiny wolves when they start running fast... They'll just zoom right past!

What if you made it possible for the player to change the direction of their net swing before it's fully swung? I'm thinking of something like Captain Falcon reversing his Falcon Punch in Smash Bros. I guess this kind of exists in the form of holding Z to keep the net above your head. Letting the player change direction just after letting go of Z, but before the net comes out might be useful.

Sometimes, I found it annoying to navigate around the levels, since it feels like you have to take the loooong way around to get back down to the lower floors without taking fall damage. When you get to play the werewolf rounds though, I began to understand. No more fall damage! It feels like the shackles have been taken off your character and you're allowed to run free.

EDIT: Sorry, I found a crash. I'm not sure what was happening, other than I think I pressed Z right before or after getting claw swiped by a wolf. I had 0 HP.

Oh thank you UTF! Great attempt and I am happy with how you feel about the game. Nice long descriptive comment that will help with feedback so thanks again.

Also I asked Cubby about that error and he suspects it is something to do with the win conditions.

But nevertheless, thank you for playing.
Thank you and have a nice day
