Spesh Planet ~ a (mostly) completely vanilla hack

Super Mario WorldStandardFull ReleaseScreenshots

Ciao! I made a (mostly) completely vanilla hack called Spesh Planet.

Inspired by made-up Special World names that came out of a voice chat with friends, this little project was an experiment to see how I could fare with level design more adjacent to that of Super Mario World's. 5 months and 8 levels later, here we are! Just in time for C3, too.

--------------------

And here we have some screenshots!

Despite sticking to the source material, I still felt compelled to include custom music in some way. The natural conclusion was to add unsampled ports, like these ones!

--------------------

And finally, this is the part where the big fancy download link shows up, since I have nothing else to say about my hack at the moment. Every thread has one, right?

Have a happy C3!
YESS CONGRATULATIONS E-MAN!!!

this hack is really good you guys, so please play it #smrpg{<3}
I playtested this and I can vouch for how much of a fun, well-designed hack this is. The levels are difficult but fair (and most importantly, fun), and evoke vanilla Super Mario World really well, while still going above and beyond in their creativity

It's no surprise that E-man is a good level designer, and this hack does not disappoint in that regard, once again showing off his skills!

I definitely recommend giving it a shot.

If you wish the Special World in SMW was more of a challenge, I highly recommend playing Spesh Planet. You won't be disappointed. #smrpg{y}

Awesome, I love these vanilla styled hacks.

Actually, since vanilla SMW uses 80s/90s slang for the special world, if it were released today, would they use 2000s/2010s slang like lit, epic etc?
Every dream is but another reality, never forget…

My In-Progress Hack

Nice hack! Admittedly, I don't have too much to say about it, but that's because this hack kind of speaks for itself: If you want to play more levels that are styled like SMW's special world, take a trip to Spesh Planet.

Arguably, this hack MIGHT fit better in Standard: Normal difficulty. It's kind of in-between Normal and Hard IMO. FLURRY, WISPY, and FUZZY have some tricky sections, but nothing felt quite as hard as SMW's Tubular or Outrageous. Spesh Planet doesn't need to be hard to be a good time though.

The Dragon Coins make for a good challenge if you decide to go for them. The player has to collect them all in a single life, so it's definitely harder than the main game.

In the second half of CLUMPY, the Mega Moles can suddenly change their directions in unexpected ways due to the Bullet Bill generators running into them. I guess there's not much that can be done about it, but it actually got me killed #ab{x_x}

Favorite levels are either FUZZY or CLUMPY. I enjoyed the tight platforrming.

Favorite detail: The overworld map for the credits level is a nice little resting place.

Thanks for the Spesh time #tb{^V^}
