Why is rom downloading illegal?

Roms are illegal cause they are games.

It's almost like downloading halo 3 or something, and then play it.
It's illegal simply cause it's like getting something you'd have to pay for, for free.

The only way to make it legal is to own the game. So if you buy a SMW cartridge(or maybe just the wiiware version), then it's legal.

Nobody really cares though, since it's very doubtful that Nintendo or something will track down people who illegally download old games that are hard to get anyways =/

What about downloading other people's hacks (like Super Demo World, Mario's Keytastrophe, Brutal mario, etc.)? You can't buy the original version of those.

Nintendo should be happy people are reusing their engines... this should be closed. Roms are illegal unless u own the game.

Useless fact - i own it on snes, gba, and wiiware.
