Hi, I'm a real fan of this game, and I'm familiar with computers and programming and manipulating games, yet I am confused with some of the downloads that have files that are in CFG format. I know how to handle ISP files but I'm not so sure with CFGs. How do I apply these to my Rom(s), and does it involve any ASM assembling? I haven't seen any answers to this, and it would be nice to find one. I'm new to this community, by the way.

You must use cfg files with the .txt datas. It means, for example you download giant shyguy from the custom sprites section it comes with a cfg file and a .txt file. Just place both datas in the sprites folder from spritetool and you can use them ^^
cfg and asm files. >_< But yes, these are used with Sprite Tool to insert custom sprites.
Oh sorry, i meaned ASM files, how boingboingssplat said.
If I understand correctly, the cfg files are called on by Sprite Tool to insert the asm into the ROM.

Yes. (I think)^^ It´s very easy, if you want i´ll explain it to you.
They contain the sprites properties. Like whether they can be jumped one, edible by Yoshi, ect.
Thanks for the answers. I must have overlooked that tool as I was browsing through them the other day. I'll let you know if I need anything else about this answered.

edit: Ok now I'm stuck; I have the spritetool in the same folder as my rom and I'm telling it my rom name and the name of the ASM file. It trys to write data, but then it tells me that the spritelist contains invalid sprite data. I can't imagine I'm downloading faulty files, so I'm thinking theres more to this than I realize. Is there somewhere around here where I can read about this, or will someone give me an explaination of how to work this spritelist stuff and how I can properly use this tool to insert a sprite. I think it may be nessesary

Heres the deal When inserting a sprite you.


1.create .TXT File with spcific numbers... and next to those the name of the .cfg file in the sprite folder.
2.boot up Sprite Tool.
3.enter rom name.
4.enter name of the .TXT you just created
5.insert ExGFX for your bad guy(not gonna go into more details on that.)
6.open lunar magic and click the icon to enter sprite editing mode.
7.open the edit menu and click insert manualy.
8.now enter the sprite number you entered in the .TXT file under sprite number. and set the extra bit to 3. you can change the X/Y positions and the screen number aswell.

the sprite wont show up as it would in game so remember that.

I have one last question regarding all this. I'm trying this with the Venus plant, and I'm wondering how I can use it's normal graphics in SMW. Should they have come with the ASM/CFG file, or do I have to look for another source for them. Also, how would I set these graphics for the sprite? Sorry for asking so many questions.

With Sprite Tool there is a Tilemaps folder. Since you put in a Venus, you insert the venus tilemap as ExGFX. Then you set SP2 to the ExGFX file. :D
