Non breaking emulator for An SMW Central Production: Final Release v1.6

Hello community,

I am currently playing the wonderful An SMW Production old hack in its latest 1.6 version, which attempted to correct some bugs.

It worked great until The Counterfort level, where the game breaks after defeating the boss. This problem is much talked about in the comments section and it seems some people have been able to beat it thanks to older version of the game and/or emulator.

So, does anyone knows what combination of the patch + emulator to use in order to beat the level ? And which also preserve the SRAM ? (I have completed 72 exits so far, can't restart everything now as game is sometimes really hard).

From my end, it crashed using both snes9x 1.60 and 1.51 versions and the last 1.6 version of the game.

It would really be great if I could continue playing this fabulous game...

Thanks a lot for your help,

Natsu

Given the age of the hack, you'd most likely you'd have to use ZSNES or Snes9x v1.43, which were the most popular options at the time.

Alternatively, you could just use a cheat code to skip the level. In any emulator you prefer, just add the following two cheatcodes:

Code
00A268 00
00A273 00

This will allow you to use START+SELECT to exit the level even if you haven't beaten it yet, and when doing so, it will also activate the level's normal exit. If you hold the A button as well, it will activate the secret exit instead.

Thank you very much St. Thomas for these useful tips !

I tried using Snes9x v1.43 via the link you provided and unfortunately it still crashes after defeating Boom-Boom... does I have to use an older version of the patch too ? I am using latest v1.6 version. ZSNES doesn't run on my computer (Windows 10), even in compatibility mode.

I really would like to try to beat it the proper way without having to use cheat codes... so I'd like to try whatever may work before. If nothing works, I will use the codes though.

Thanks again !
You can try that version here.
It's the only older version I've found for download.

If it still doesn't work, you can try the SRAM of this hack, but I think it's only compatible with version 1.6, and even if you manage to get into the inaccessible parts, you won't like the result very much.
Thank you so much Heitor Porfirio ! After some tries I could make it work !

The good combination is Snes9x v1.43 with the older version of the hack here. I don't know what version it is exactly, does someone know ?

However, the input settings are quite buggy in this version of snes9x, I couldn't configure my controller properly... I had to let the default settings unchanged and use Joy2Key to make it work.

I will re-use the latest version from now on and will get back to the older if I encounter this crash again.

I am writing a detailed review of the game (problems and remarks in some levels), rest assured I will add this good combination in the review so that everyone could beat that level the proper way and not getting mad with this crash.

Thanks again for your help, you are awesome =]
Precisely the 1.5 version. We will always be here to help when possible. #tb{^V^}
Wonderful ! Here is a summary of the tools needed :

- Snes9x v1.43
- An SMW Central Production v1.5
- Joy2Key if you encounter problems with input configuration of Snes9x v1.43 (was the case for me)
