How well did you like this thread (READ IT BEFORE VOTING!!!)

Seeing X6 being among your top 3 Megaman(X) games is always surprising, even though I know I've read that somewhere before... X6 is either one of those you love it or hate it, but you're glad it exists kind of things. I personally love it, has some of the more interesting ideas, even if the game feels like it was designed while the creators were on crack or smoking something while they made it. The final Sigma boss in particular is quite an interesting idea for a boss and something I fantasize on seeing a recreation of some day.

Meanwhile your music. Nature's Muscle in particular stands out to me, partly because it's a Secret of Mana song, but it really makes my head bounce and bounce. I'm right there thinking "This man has put out the Corridors of Time remix, the Infinity Majinion remix, the fucking Underworld Forest remix which I still consider one of your best pieces, and now we have this Secret of Mana mix." Even though Megaman X5 is among the lowest, I'm still wondering if you'd ever consider doing a remix of Mattrex/Burn Dinorex stage, or perhaps the cyber space songs heard at the end of the game?

And now I have two questions for you: Do you play any real time strategy games on the side? Things like Command and Conquer or Stellaris?

Second one: we agree on Megaman X6 being an enjoyable game in our personal opinions, but where they differ is that Megaman X5 is such a low ranking for you. What is it about Megaman X5 that you didn't enjoy or put it in such a low spot?

I know I've been really slow with X5 given I've given all the other SNES / PSX X games a lot more attention.

It's not really I don't enjoy Mega Man X5, 'cuz even though it's overall mid, I still find great moments in it. I honestly like the game quite a bit. It's funny though, 'cuz I'd also say while X4 leaned a lot more towards Zero than X, X5 is the opposite (which I've always liked playing as X slightly more than Zero). It's just that at times I think X5 can be boring and tedious, and I'm not talking about Duff McWhalen's stage, personally, 'cuz despite it being a slow AF auto-scroller, it has an arrangement of Bubble Crab's stage theme which fucking makes up for it for me. But certain other stages never really clicked with me as much as previous X games + X6, including some of X3's levels.

X6 is a shitty game with very horrid design choices (though I find it to be better than X7, in my opinion), poor level design, poor item progression, and one of the best soundtracks on the PlayStation 1. I kid you not when I say X6 alongside Castlevania: Symphony of the Night are both my favorite PSX games, and I've played a plentiful of them throughout my life. Pretty sure one of the reasons why I'm one of the few people that doesn't get mad at the game is because I did grow up playing this as a kid and never saw anything wrong with its design (I was an innocent wee lad who didn't use the internet that much at the time), which is funny considering I'd play X7 not too long after and hate that game with every burning fiber of my heart.
But what makes X6 fun for me is the broken-ness of the game. It's horrid design could be turned into your own benefit. I mean, Zero's just a monster in that game, even without his Black Armor cheat enabled. But even as X I enjoy the game too. No shit, I'm the one dude on this planet that enjoys fighting the Nightmare Snake (aka the "Giant Red Velvet Donuts") despite the boss fights being awfully designed.
Another thing for me that makes me enjoy X6 way too much is its FANTASTIC AF SOUNDTRACK THAT GOES SO HARD, IT GOT YOUR MOTHER COMING OVER TO MY HOUSE TO HEAR IT!! I swear, every song in that game is composed so beautifully it makes me scream, and there's a variety of songs in the game with different styles. It feels like the proper swan-song of the Mega Man PSX games' OSTs. X6 is my 2nd favorite soundtrack in the series behind X1, which says a lot given X4 and X5 were also really damn good and X2 and X3... had good compositions, though lackluster instrumentation.

I think my love for Mega Man X6 just kinda shows how much of a hardcore X fan I am. To even say its a guilty pleasure of mine would require me to feel GUILTY of playing it... but I'm the opposite. I will spread my love for this game to everybody, even if it makes me look like a fool. I rather live my life as one if it means I can enjoy X6 for the rest of my life.
