Donut Plains - A cape hack (WIP)

Super Mario WorldKaizo/PitWork in Progress

Hi. I've been working on a hack and thought I'd share a little bit.

This is Donut Plains. A hack that involves cape in all of the levels in some way.

I've always been a fan of cape, and after trying to make a cape level for my first hack and failing countless times
I thought I'd challenge myself to make a little cape hack.

The goal is to make around 10 levels, and I plan on making them all relatively short and only one section.
In my opinion of what I have so far is nothing too hard execution wise, but if you're not really familiar with cape tech you'd probably get a little rekt.

Anyway, thanks for checking this out and here are a couple screenshots.

I love the cape too. But I'm not good at kaizo levels so I probably wouldn't do so well at this. I see there are a lot of evil blocks being utilized. That is scary haha~
Good luck with the rest of the project. #w{=)}

This entire hack is the definition of "imagine if all levels are DP1 but harder and more demanding" :p

Usually most cape hacks are truly repetitive, but only few of them actually stand out. What you've shown so far is a source of that.

I really like the setups and the combination of the name with the cape gimmick. Shouldn't be too difficult if you know the basics. Are you planning to remedy cape flight by applying some QoL patches? I ask because flying in SMW is janky sometimes.

Good luck and can't wait for more!
I am horrible at cape, but this hack looks really fun to play. I also like the aesthetics!
The cape is really a fascinating mechanic of SMW that is very often underutilized.
There's so much more to it than simply taking the easy way out and flying over the level.
It's nice to see it getting the spotlight a little more!
With that said though, i suck at using it and probably won't be able to play this lol

Not a bad design in kaizo!

I'm not one of those things with capes either, besides everything else in any kind of emulated game I use savestates (unless when I'm going to test some of my hacks on difficulty), but it looks pretty good too. #smrpg{y}
Cape has a wild number of possibilities which can be overwhelming, but the more we explore cape design language the less daunting it'll be. Happy to be seeing another cape hack!
Flying mario; a hack that contrasts beauty with difficulty. I will not play this, but the people that will are sure to have a very fun time.

Gotta blast. #smw{:TUP:}
ask me if i give a f*ck...

I'm not so good with cape, but this hack looks really cool!
The graphics are really nice, and it seems to have a good gameplay, I like it.
Looking forward to the release.

I have already seen some of this hack and it's pretty cool, if you love cape I am sure you will love this hack.
This looks really nice. I'm not very good at cape stuff, but I do like it and would love an opportunity to get some more experience. Very nice visually from the screenshots as well.
oh HELL yea. really glad to see that you're working on a cape hack. looks beautiful from the screenshots, and i eagerly anticipate release. keep it up!
While I can't say much about cape since I can barely even fly it in regular SMW, I can at least say that the aesthetics here look absolutely gorgeous! Your palette choices are so vibrant and fit the theme of each level so well. The azure Dolphins especially stick out to me, and the pale yet still bright forest too. I'm super excited to see the levels in action, both from an aesthetic perspective, and to see how everything plays (even if I can't play it myself #ab{:LOL:}).

Despite them being mostly vanilla, something about the graphics seems really appealing, perhaps the palette choices or something. But I agree that capes are fun (even if I have no idea how to do cape tech in the slightest :)), so I wish you well with this endeavor!
embed fail!!

As far as I can see from the screenshots, the hack looks very promising, I like when levels have vldc-type aesthetics and this one seems to follow that premise. Can't wait to play it (and maybe moderate it? idk).
Damn this looks great! I really miss actual cape stuff in kaizo hacks, so it's always exciting to see new stuff like this. GL with the project!
As someone who also loves the cape and messing around with it, this hack should be right up my alley! The aesthetics are pretty, the colours are vibrant, and the level design looks very enjoyable to play. The abundance of ropes hanging around is interesting too, it makes everything feel extra charming.

Good luck with the rest of your project, I'm excited to see what's next!
What is a Lunar Magic, and can I eat it?
