So I will probably never mod my 3ds at all but I wanted to know does Nintendo still ban 3ds systems even after the eshop is shut down? It only makes sense to just drop the whole system and move on with the switch right? If you have any answers let me know.

I assume you have some games for it. In that case, keep it so you can dump games to your computer. From there, I advise using Citra.

Am not super knowledgeable about dumping games, sorry.

I'm not 100% certain on this, but I doubt Nintendo is going to ban any 3DSs unless you actively cheat online or something like that. As long as you properly install homebrew and stuff like that, I don't think you'll have any issues.
