The Fallen Star

Standard

Welcome!

About the hack
This hack is my attempt to provide pleasant experience using custom resources towards something mostly traditional. It features icegoom's SMW Redrawn as the graphics base, and level design that isn't necessarily gimmick but hopefully remains nice to play. Its story will be kept simple, synopsis as follows:

Videos
While my channel has other level videos featured in this hack, they're slightly outdated to the current version I'm working on, so I'm only listing the one below as it's the most recent level.
(Feel free to check them out regarldess!)

That's all for now!
Admittedly, progress on this hack will most likely be slow, but hopefully each time I update the thread there will be enough content to make up for it.

If you wish to play a demo version of this hack, here you go.
Really enjoyed the demo. Looking forward to this one.

Thank you so much!

Not a lot to show, as I've been stuck in progress with the World 1's Castle (or perhaps, ruins?) and have been instead touching up other things in the hack. I do a have a sneak peek of it though, for those interested:

Also some progress with the overworld! World 1 has been touched up a bit, and World 2 has been designed.

Feedback is appreciated as always!

Mirannie my beloved, this is one of the only hacks that I'll play and want to be updated on, so if you're still interested on continuing this, I'm onboard!

The overworld you posted is pretty too!
I always enjoy seeing people using the graphics I submit to the central, your hack looks like it's combining a lot of resources and actually making them meld really well together. Almost reminds me of TKO, but that's probably just that one cave background you're using. The overworld in particular is quite interesting, but I'd love to see more of the actual level design in another video showcase, perhaps one of the fully designed cave levels to see what kinds of level design we can look forward to?

You have quite a nice and roomy level design that seems to focus more on the level layout than enemy/sprite usage, which is always welcome. Does this hack use SA-1?

That background is from icegoom's Mario's Lost World hack.
I do happen to have a video of that cave level, although it's slightly old, the level remains the same for the most part.

It does, although I currently have no levels done that push my hack to really require it.

Thanks a lot for the feedback btw!
Played the demo. Enjoyed it a lot. Even with the small handful of levels here, there was a lot of variety and the level layouts complimented the environment theming very well.

I take small issue with the Fortress level. Having water that is a single tile high feels strangely narrow. I wish there was more swimming room to deal with the obstacles like swimming under jumping fish.

I'll consider making the water tide at least one tile taller. Since the water is on layer 1, it's also really easy to fall off as well. Hopefully it won't affect much how the level plays out, with the player doing all action a little higher in the screen.
(for the record, I've tried using water on layer 3 but it made the bubbles rise to the top when they're at screen boundaries while the player is moving, and it could cause them to touch the ceiling and burst, when they shouldn't)

Thanks a lot for playing the demo btw! I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it #thp{!!!}
The hack does fit the theme of the overworld and I was fascinated by the demo, maybe one day you will release another demo/update

success to your nice hack
I've watched the video of the cave level and it looks quite good. My only suggestion would be to introduce those Exploding Platforms in a safer way if that makes sense?
I didn't think they'd explode when I first saw them.

I've tweaked that segment a bit. Hopefully the reaction time here seems enough.

New looks for the 1-1! The level design hasn't really changed though.
The background was made by Blind Devil.

Sure looks nice with all the great visuals!
That's an improved way of introducing the concept in a manner that doesn't actually disrupt the flow of the level. #smrpg{y}
I didn't expect to see an update so quick after posting earlier!
