Other ROM hacks you play/recommend?

What else is cool? Either an improvement of the title or a total hack.

Legend of Zelda Redux is very nice as it adds in a lot of QOL improvements. Quite a lot of these types for SNES. Translations welcome too.
Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii is very good. There's a deluxe version in the works, though.

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
Hm... you're setting up a ROM hack recos thread, eh? Right on! Now it's time for me to show off some stuff that's far from famous. So, without further ado...

ROM hacks

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine: Deluxe Edition

This ROM hack completely revises the localized version of Puyo Puyo for the SEGA Mega Drive/SEGA Genesis. Changes include:
  • Sonic in place of Carbun—wait... we have a different name over here... Has Bean
  • Revised Story Mode dialog to keep in line with AoSTH's show run (Original dialog is also available)
  • Red X indicators, just like in the modern PuyoPuyo games
  • Colorblind support

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles of Rage: The Final Shell Shock

Ever wish you want to play as Leo, Raph, Donnie and Mikey in a Streets of Rage game? Now you can! With this hack, anything else from Streets of Rage 2 have been replaced with some characters from the TMNT series, such as Shredder in place of Shiva, as well as Bebop and Rocksteady.

In addition to character replacements, The Final Shell Shock mod also provides support for Terraonion MegaSD and Mega Everdrive with high quality music (hence called the Re-Shelled patches).

Gex the Gecko in Sonic the Hedgehog

"Hey, you put Gex in a Sonic the Hedgehog game!" In this hack, all of Gex's abilities—like the Tail Bounce, Tongue Lash and Tail Whip—have been implemented... except for Wall Climb, which hasn't implemented yet.

This hack also makes the Sonic game look like a Gex game, like finding Remotes and munching on insects (like Fireflies)!

Roll-chan series

It ain't a ROM hack thread without putting my personal favorite of almost everything! Zynk Oxhyde has made a bunch of Roll sprite hacks in the past few years, and you have the chance to play all of them! (Or any of them, if that counts.) These include 6+1 sprite hacks for the NES/Famicom, 5 sprite hacks for the Game Boy, and one for the SEGA Game Gear.

Cu-On-Pa SFC (a.k.a. Endorfun for the SNES)

This is a Super Nintendo port of Endorfun by Onesong Partners, released in Japan by T&E Soft. Just like the PC version, you control a small cube, referred to as a light body, by using the SNES controller. The light body rolls along a grid (the unified field) collecting life force tiles (colored tiles with a texture matching that of the cube) by rolling the cube over them such that the top face of the cube matches the color of the tile. Colored tiles of varying types appear randomly on the playing surface, but can be eliminated in the same manner as life force tiles.

Galaxy Fräulein Yuna

Created by Mika Akitaka, an artist known for his mecha designs in anime series, mostly, the Gundam series, Galaxy Fräulein Yuna is a series of visual novels that tell the story of Yuna Kagurazaka, her friends, and a righteous amount of girls in skimpy power armor. This is first game of the series, released for the PC-Engine CD on October 23, 1992.
“How did I get myself into this!?” “What the heck is a fräulein anyways?”

Harmful Park

Although this game was sold in limited quantities, Harmful Park is one of the rarest PlayStation games we have ever seen. The game puts into the shoes of Lesca and Lemone, the daughters of Dr. Cassis. Using their prototype hoverbikes she developed, the two daughters must make their way to an enemy-filled theme park island created by Dr. Tequila, the main villain of this game. This game was developed by Sky Think System and it was released for the PlayStation on February 14, 1997.

PuyoPuyo~n

It may or might be the one of the last-ever games developed by COMPILE, PuyoPuyo~n is considered one of the most definitive PuyoPuyo/Sorcery Saga games in the COMPILE era. But showing here is the Dreamcast version of this game, now available in full English by the Precise Museum. (Let's hope if we can get a full English translation of Madou Monogatari for the SEGA Saturn very soon!)
