Spesh Planet 2 ~ a (mostly) completely vanilla sequel

Super Mario WorldStandardWork in ProgressScreenshots

Ciao! I've been working on a sequel to my hack, Spesh Planet, which I released one year ago last summer. I figured it would be fitting enough to make a thread for its anniversary!

The inspiration this time around actually stems from just wanting to make more (mostly) completely vanilla levels, I even felt this way before Spesh Planet was finished in the first place. So, 10 months later... I've made less progress than before! Wow! Turns out I've put way more care into this sequel than I initially thought, there's been lots of planning under the hood. Regardless, I'm still determined to finish Spesh Planet 2 by the end of the year.

--------------------

Speaking of, here are a few screenshots!

But wait, that's not all!

Instead of recycling Special World's map again, I thought it would be more appropriate to make an original overworld for Spesh Planet 2. Especially one that houses levels twice the amount of 8!

All the events are done too, which is nice to not worry about.
I'm keeping them a secret for now though. #lm{owev2}

As for the hack's soundtrack, it's essentially 99% complete and fully unsampled once more. Here are some of the ports I've chosen!

--------------------

And that's all I can present for now. I'd love to gush about Spesh Planet 2 and my plans for hours on end, but there's no time for that! Go check out all the cool and awesome things other people are showing off too!

Have a happy C3, everyone! #smrpg{mlem}

That OW looks good. I do understand that secret.

Pure vanilla screenshots like these are always cool to see - they still have some of their old power to take me back to late 2007. I like that you're not actually going for "pure vanilla" but rather "vanilla level design plus a dash of custom graphics" - not sure if I've ever seen anyone else use that approach.

Good luck on finishing this project!

It's very interesting to see hacks that are completely vanilla, without changing anything in the colors.

Good luck with the project! #w{:>}
I would like to claim the title of "Spesh Planet 2's Biggest Fan" because I am SO excited for this hack! The screenshots already look very promising, and that overworld is gorgeous! E-man level design is always top-notch, and this hack is sure to deliver. After all, with twice the levels comes twice the fun!

Had a blast playing Spesh Planet 1! Very hype for the sequel! Hope it will even more better! It's really nice to see an Super Mario World Romhack to be 100% vanilla, it's something rare to see nowadays. Keep it up E-Man38!!! #smw{:peace:}
Thank you all for the support and good lucks! #smrpg{<3}

Right! It feels fitting to leave the overworld events up in the air for now because that's how it is for the ones in Super Mario World. For the first time you never know what's gonna happen after finishing a level, so I wanted to keep the spirit of that alive in Spesh Planet 2.

I'm glad you think so! It's exactly what I was going for with these levels, making them look and feel like they're from a hack during 2007-2011. Or at least just evoking nostalgia for that era.

It's definitely a fun approach, haha. I like the restrictions of vanilla SMW since it helps me think outside the box, and the small amount of custom graphics add an extra flavour to the whole thing. It's like a cherry on top!

Yes!! I'm just as excited! Simply knowing that others are looking forward to the hack motivates me so much, it's really inspiring.

In fact, I'm working on a level as I'm typing this sentence out! It features layer 3 pillars.
What is a Lunar Magic, and can I eat it?
Yooo, Spesh Planet 2, let's go. I'm definetely playing this, when it releases, mainly because I had a great time with the first one. Keep up the good work. #smrpg{:3}
