J-1990 - A personalized experience

Super Mario WorldStandardWork in ProgressScreenshots

C3 seems like a good enough time to announce this, so why not.
Many of you who are familiar with all the Super Mario 64 conspiracies stuff are probably aware of B3313, well this is basically that but for Super Mario World. Me and a couple of jokers came up with it and dubbed it the "Anomaly build" or J-1990, it is modeled after the June and July prerelease builds of Super Mario World... On the surface, at least. It features a plethora of levels based on the various beta builds, level depictions from official media like commercial tie-ins, levels ripped straight from many of the popular hoax videos from 2006 to 2009 and some all new levels to tie them all together.

As expected, the goal is to reach "Kuppa" Castle at the end, but this will not be such an easy task. There is absolutely no sense of direction, things like dying after a midway goal is collected or entering a bonus room can throw you into other levels, as well as change your position on the overworld. There is even a good chance that you could be sent into other builds of the game by simply entering the wrong pipe in a level, go too deep and you may find yourself in the corrupted remains of the SMB3 port that started SMW's development!

Right now this is in its early stages and lacks features that I'd like to add (Per-level custom Status Bars and Course Clear screens, dying in a level changing your position on the overworld, etc.) and as such, I don't really have a demo available at this given time. That said, I hope this admittedly goofy concept intrigues some of you out there. If you have any suggestions for what to add in this, feel free to leave them down below.

Oh, this is neat! I really like the concept, especially as a fan of B3313. I am looking forward to seeing this progress!

I've always been a huge fan of beta assets. I'd love to see several iterations of beta koopas, goombas, yoshis, etc. make it all in to a single hack.
Projects:
- Game Night - Mario Party 3 Game Board
- 3+World (Cancelled - Download Available)
- Super Mario World Beta (2009)

This is such an exciting concept to bring to SMW, and I'm really looking forward to seeing this released one day! The fuzziness of the screenshots really adds to the spooky vibe of it. I love it!

As for feature suggestions, maybe some kind of fake reset that could lead to prototype title screens? Ones with the SMB4 subtitle, for example. Though that might require some tricky ASM. Otherwise, there's a plethora of gigaleak assets to dig through for inspiration.

Before the C3 threads close entirely, here's a few more things that have been added:

The Japanese Kirin commercial tie-in reimagined as a level, utilizing the unused "Underground 3" tileset.

The hidden Moon World based on one of the first hoaxes made for Super Mario World, originates from an Australian magazine from the 90's. The map is made to resemble the October 1989 "Kinoko" overworld found in the gigaleak, right down to the leftover cut-off tiles on the bushes for added authenticity.

I might attempt that, I did plan on including a few fake-out crashes.

Correct! Both iterations of that room are present and will likely be accessible in one of the Yoshi's Island 1 iterations.

That's the plan, whatever can't be achieved with exGFX will be recreated with disassemblies.
