Anorak's Graphic Variety: From the Fifth Chapel to a Space Cemetery!

Super Mario WorldGraphicsResource ReleaseScreenshots

Hooowdy! Took me a bit more long than usual to appear here, due to a lot of real life circumstances and due to the fact I was busy with other projects, including my own hack, which unfortunately, I won't be able to show due to the lack of significant progress. But I hope to finish it for the next event. I hope...

Anyway, as per tradition, I came here to bring some very unusual and beautiful graphics. So let the show begin!

Castlevania: Bloodlines - Versailles Palace ~ Fifth Chapel

This is a recreation of the Fifth Chapel from the Versailles, which is found inside Castlevania: Bloodlines. For those who don't know, in this game, Eric Lecard and John Morris make a small tour through Europe to stop the Countess Elizabeth Barthley from causing even more chaos .

The context of this game is very different from the rest of the series: the "Blood Countess" is the one responsible for starting World War I, leading to many deaths, which is necessary to ressurect Dracula and with the Europe engulfed in war, two heroes have to stop this mad woman once and for all.

Anyway, this is one of the areas of the Palace of Versailles, which is a vertical section filled with dangerous Wall Eyes. It is a very niche background that can be used for cutscenes, boss battles or even vertical sections. Works well with level mode 0C, in case you need to darken the background.

Castlevania: Bloodlines - Leaning Tower of Pisa (Interior)

A tilted background for the world's most famous tilted tower. Despite looking simple to rip, it was a freaking nightmare to assemble this background. Looping took me a few hours to get done right. A good fit for unusual level themes.

Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius (SNES) - Fiesta Base (Interior)

A funny background with penguins and some mechanisms. Due to some technical limitations on my end, I was unable to rip the animation of them. My current setup can't handle SA-1 + Tilemap Viewer updating in real time. A great fit for temple themed levels. As usual, the moai motif is always present in Parodius, check the top part of the pillars. 🗿🗿🗿

Youkai Buster: Ruka no Daibouken - Mountain Temple (Exterior)

And welcome to the most random game I chose to rip stuff. I stumbled on a longplay of this game while making my hack, before C3, so I checked it out.

As turns out, this game originally was called The Jetsons: Invasion of Planet Pirates. It got rebranded and redone when it came to Japan and it became a story about a demon girl called Ruka, who fights against harmful monsters. The gameplay is all about the portable demon vacuum.

Anyway, this is a great background for night levels, in general.

Youkai Buster: Ruka no Daibouken - Space Cemetery

And now for a background that is so big, that I needed to use the expanded horizontal level feature from Lunar Magic. A cemetery landscape, which somehow, is mixed together with space. A really unique twist that I never seen in any other game, indeed.

Looks like just a normal day hunting mean monsters, I guess. #smrpg{:D}

Youkai Buster: Ruka no Daibouken - Industrial Facility

And finally, one of the more "normal" backgrounds in the entire game. It is some sort of industrial facility which has a lot of traps such as conveyor belts, crushers and even the glass tubes which remind me from Sonic. A great fit for industrial levels, in general.

And now, for two extra more things. Courtesy of my floppa friend, Dark Prince.

Mega Man 6 - Molier

"Now get ready for some drilling action!" - Nintendo Direct presentator, probably.

Originally, from Mega Man 6, these enemies got reshaded and redone by my friend Dark Prince, at my request. ROW ROW FIGHT DA POWER and add a bit more of charm in your cave levels.

Super Mario World Styled Met

Originally made by Nobody The Dragon (NBTD), once again I called my great friend Dark Prince to do some touches and adjustments to fit better with SMW art style. A good fit for some futuristic or Mega Man themed levels, in general. Rock'n Roll through evil hoards of robots by using this Buzzy Beetle replacement as a deadly weapon!

Don't forget to credit NBTD and Dark Prince for this graphic.

And that is it! Not sure if I'll bring more content tomorrow. But expect some post-C3 content coming very soon at this thread. Thank you if you managed to read this entire wall of text and images without blinking. #smrpg{sick}

Such an underrated resource thread.

The Pizzsa Tower background reminds me of those tense escape sequences in games.

Kinda weird how nobody thought of using the Molier graphics as a Mega Mole replacement, not even the late 2000s hacks (at least that I'm aware of).
Kirbo was here
Your rips are always perfect! Excellent work here! #wario{:peace:}
I wonder, (and not trying to summon NotLinkdead, creator of super slope muncher here) is the leaning tower of pisa a 30° angle, combining it with the steep (not the super steep ones) slopes creating a feeling of sliding down the walls of the tower?
Man, I hope i have these angles correct in my head...

Anyways, love the backgrounds, great work once again.
Thanks for all the compliments, folks. I hope people have fun using these bizarre but pretty graphics. Anyway, it is that time of C3...

POST C3 CONTENT TIME

Youkai Buster: Ruka no Daibouken - Futuristic City

This is the background of the first level, which is some kinda of futuristic city in space. Another big background, as usual, since this game uses a lot of big sprites, like the main character itself. A good fit for city or mechanical levels, in general.

And I'll bring more graphics soon. I have been recovering from fever and cold lately, so I was unable to participate C3 as much as I would like. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this background.

These look bangin', very nice work!

Pretty cool rips as usual, but Tower of Pisa (Interior) blew my mind, how the fuck you did that.
lookin good Anorakun, I appreciate all the rips being converted into SMW.
Want progress on 100 Rooms of Enemies: The Nightmare Edition? Go here to see.

(rip my other userbars momentarily)

How I did the Tower of Pisa? I just bashed my head against the wall until it looped properly. lol.

Also, thanks everyone who visited my thread. Sorry if I haven't been able to participate much in this C3, by commenting in everyone's thread or posting more content, but I got caught with cold and fever lately and I'm just recovering recently. My bad.

Well...

To end C3 in great style, I have two more things to show.

POST-C3 CONTENT TIME AGAIN!

Youkai Buster: Ruka no Daibouken - Mountain Temple (Interior)

This is the background seen inside the Mountain Temple, which is the third world of the game. It has an outside part, which I already ripped, and this interior thing. Which is a japanese temple filled with traps. This background seems great for some sort of cave level, in general. I like the funny architecture, personally. And it uses only 33 tiles and covers the entire screen. Amazing deal, right? #smrpg{sick}

Popful Mail (SNES) - Lip and Lap

Since NPC sprites graphics are so rare, I decided that I'll bring some for the site. Starting with the mini-bosses, but also NPCs of the icy area of Popful Mail for the Super Famicom. This duo seems friendly at first, until they are possessed by the evil forces. Lip is the green haired maiden, which has a santa hat. Lap is the red haired one that reminds slightly the main protagonist, Mail. Anyway. I also have thought about providing a text file with an example configuration of npc sprite so it is easier to see these npc graphics in action. I might bring more of these in a near future.

Please use these with wye's NPC sprite.

Thanks for coming and visiting my thread. I hope my graphics can bring a bit more of flavor and personality for your hacks. See ya in the next time. #smrpg{:3}

Before the C3 closes, here is a bonus graphic for all you folks!

Chess Pawn by NBTD

A very cool Chess Pawn thwimp replacement to spice up your casino or wacky levels. Fits very well with any kind of level, in my opinion.

Credits should go to No Body the Dragon.

And that is it. Thanks everyone that visited my thread. I hope you had a fantastic C3. #smrpg{:O}

And here is another bonus. Better I sneak in, before the forums are officially closed.

Ganbare Goemon 3: Shishijūrokubē no Karakuri Manji Gatame - Mechanical City

A very gorgeous city background that appears in a few points of the game. An HDMA gradient is included to be inserted with Uberasm. Since the bottom row is empty, I recommend fill the entire level with ground. Anyway, this shall be my last rip for this C3.

I hope you have enjoyed it. See you later, alligator!

Ohhh, looks like I have time left still to bring more post-C3 content. And to close the curtains:

Mechanoid Blargg by NBTD

A mechanical Blargg reskin, It is a perfect fit for mechanical / industrial levels, in general. Credits should go to No Body the Dragon.

And that wraps up my C3 thread. Thanks for everyone who visited it. #smrpg{:O}
