I love rhythm gimmicks, so will I love this hack! And I did! #smrpg{y}
My favorite level is
JUMP 4/4
, one of my favorite smw level I've ever played! #w{<3}

My 1st romhack in progress (testing avaiable)...
(beta)
I remember Richter's Mixtape, Medic and S.N.N.'s CLDC2020 submission, which I didn't realise was tied to the music. Any chance it was inspired by that entry? However, Machine-Made Mayhem came before it albeit without any beat visualisation.

It's definitively a cool hack when you consider just how rare rhythmic levels are in SMW hacking (in part because of the need to prepare MMLs to include this). My favourite levels might be Ping Pong Delay with the
position mirroring
and Jump 4/4
with the auto jumping
even if these are quite a pain in the butt (since I had to tank hits at time) but do develop quite nicely. Conversely, GAUNTLET feels fairly anti-climatic as a final level in that
it lacks any rhythm gimmick which does mirror, Banana Phone, the first level for a bookends but also is an easier level compared to the other two B-Side levels
. On the upside,
there is a boss which still incoorperates the rhythm and wish there were there were a first half of a level but hey, time is limited!
.

The idea initially came after taking a look through markalarm's Celeste.smc resources, until then I had no idea how to make something like this. That said, Richter's mixtape was one of my main inspirations when it comes to level design, it was one of the first contest levels I've ever played ever since I joined the site.

I think rhythm levels do not appear often in hacks because there aren't many easily available resources on that topic. Making every gimmick work and fixing all the bugs was a pain and i honestly wouldn't have made it without a few helping hands. Even now there are some problems me and Jank couldn't solve (mainly incompatibilities with the retry patch).
I'm not knowledgeable enough to make a tutorial or a well made resource but if a better asmer did it would make rhythm gimmicks more accessible and therefore more popular in my opinion
I suck at ASM and AMK
I know the contest's over, but I can't help but point out that there was an orb I was unaware of that despawned in Ping Pong Delay. I had to open Lunar Magic to find out there was one. May be worth looking into in the future.
Bro, these Earthlings think I’m arrogant
Sorry, I came from a distant planet 🪐
Release 👏 the 👏 OST 👏
Guess we will release it together with the fixed hack release.

Btw...someone forgot to include the port for the OW #w{>=(} Just imagine this is playing on the OW

This is one extremely creative hack and I can only applaud you for trying something as fresh as this. The gimmicks were all unexpected, kinda Mario Wonder-esque in terms of how surprised I was to see most of them. The one I found the coolest was
the floor constantly flipping between the foreground and background in SIDE A!SIDE B.

Unfortunately though, besides the difficulty feeling too high to me (but seeing as nobody else is complaining, I assume that is on myself), there's also some genuine annoyances that I feel stand seperately from the actual goal of the contest. The worst parts to me were
constantly getting stuck in the actual floor in the second half of GABBER SPONGE, as well as the Dry Bones in the boss level seemingly regenerating at random intervals, an unfair disadvantage in what is already a really tough section of the level
. There's probably more, but i'm real exhausted from playing this for 4 hours straight so I don't remember everything that irked me.

Don't be discouraged still, this one has plenty of awesome concepts packed into it. Well done everyone!
this is nice, its questionable but at the same time elegant, those two words come to mind when I see this entry. Also like the hackjam bossfight
