Hello and happy C3 everyone!
This is actually the fourth C3 where I'm posting a thread about my still-in-progress hack "Super BanzaiChuck World" (SBCW). Either I'm doing something wrong and am super slow at what I'm doing, or I'm just having fun and don't want it to stop. Just kidding ;)
Now that I have given everyone who is interested an insight into the gameplay, overworld and game concept, I thought about what else I could show without it becoming boring or repeating myself.
Therefore, I wanted to take this opportunity to present my little mini-game/demo, which you unlock by playing through SBCW once. Once the final boss has been defeated, you get to an (optional) small bonus area that is mainly dedicated to the namesake of this hack. However, the mini-game mentioned above is also available for everyone, so to speak.
I think I'll just let the pictures do the talking at this point - welcome to Super Banzai Bros.
The idea is certainly nothing new, but I thought it might be a nice little reward/intermezzo (and I have to admit that I celebrate Mario in his little plane a bit ).
So far I'm not sure whether I should turn this into a little independent hack. I probably have a few more ideas, but we'll have to see whether it's enough for an entire hack and whether it doesn't become too monotonous. I would be very happy to hear your opinions on this!
Otherwise, here's a little WIP-Update on the actual hack "Super BanzaiChuck World":
The actual main game and the overworld are finished apart from a few small things. The "only" thing missing from this train is the final boss. There is already a rough concept for the boss and the final fight and the first programming work has been completed so that the boss can already carry out some actions. At this point, a big thank you goes to NGB, who supports me and takes over the programming part! Thank you for that!
Many little things on the sidelines have also already been completed - this includes something like an entrance hub level, which grants access to a story level, a general tutorial and a small chill-out lounge, as well as the credits level, which is prepared to be filled with names in painstaking detail work
What I'm currently working on is the bonus area mentioned above, with which I want to make the hack for BanzaiChuck a little more personal and fun. Although you might not think it, there is a lot of work in this bonus part but I think and hope that it will be worth it. I don't want to spoil any further details at this point for reasons ;)
As a final side fact: I noticed that I put three levels on all but one of the overworld subworlds (plus two on the main map, which leads to 19 exits). Of course I didn't want to let this faux pas stand and add another level in the interests of symmetry to get a nice, friendly 20 exit hack xD. A look at my "What BanzaiChuck Likes List" told me that I still had two open items: "Silhouette Level" and "Ultrastar Level". In order not to cause any damage to the desired symmetry, both points had to be accommodated in one level. The result: half a silhouette level with fast platforming - not quite Silhouette, not quite Ultrastar, but ultimately task accomplished I would say. But you are welcome to form your own opinion on the following video :-)
Wild Wild West (the ominous symmetry restoration level ;P)
All that remains for me to say is:
Many thanks to everyone who is interested in this hack and to everyone who gave me feedback in any form and may continue to do so!
It would be nice if I could release the hack for the next C3, but only Princess Toadstool knows that, and unfortunately she's in another castle ;P
