The Amazing Autowalk Adventure

Super Mario WorldKaizo/PitFull ReleaseScreenshotsVideos

Two C3s ago, I shared an autowalk hack that I made in late 2020 and hadn't done anything for since. Over the last year, I've been working on and off to finish this hack, and now I can finally present: The Amazing Autowalk Adventure!

The Amazing Autowalk Adventure is an autowalk Kaizo hack, where the levels are somewhat synchronized to the music. In comparison to most of my other hacks, it focuses much more on platforming and much less on obscure glitches or strange puzzles, and it is completely intended for RTA play (this time around, I even completed every level prior to posting!). However, this doesn't mean that this hack is easy - it is, in fact, rather difficult - nor does it mean that the levels are blind-readable (however, more on that topic later). Also, the levels are rather lengthy for the Kaizo genre, with most of them being longer than a minute: We want to listen to a good chunk of the song, after all!

Anyway, enough text for now. Here are screenshots:

And since the main gimmick totally doesn't come across on static screenshots, here's a clear video:

Now, after watching the video, you might think: "I want to play this, but I'm scared since this looks pretty difficult". For this problem, this hack offers a solution: A built-in Practice Mode! To enable Practice Mode, simply select the friendly menu entry on the overworld:

This enables checkpoints in the levels, which allow you to learn the level section-by-section. Here's a picture of a checkpoint:

After collecting the checkpoint, you will then respawn near that checkpoint instead of at the start of the level whenever you die (I probably didn't need to explain that...). And if you complete a level in checkpoint mode, you get a small little blue checkmark to indicate this:

Completing a level in Practice Mode also enables you to freely select which checkpoint you want to spawn at on subsequent practice runs. Simply start Practice Mode and select your checkpoint with the L/R buttons.
Caveat: There is no music synchronization in Practice Mode, so if you want the full experience, you need to play each level in Normal Mode after practicing the level using the Practice Mode.

That's everything I have to say about this hack for now, so here's the download:

geometry dash real???
so far this is classic
Super Geometry World is back! lol
I remember seeing this last time you posted about it haha

It's still so blatantly inspired by Geometry Dash, and it's still super impressive how much of the game you've actually managed to capture! That wave gamemode is cool haha
I love the new levels that are being shown here, that Tetris level gives some Geometrical Dominator vibes, Bonetrousle actually plays similarly to an Undertale battle, the Ghost House level has some incredible music sync haha
There are some other levels that do strike me as very familiar from Geometry Dash (like the neon green level) but i can't quite pinpoint what they were inspired by (or maybe they just weren't)

I have to say, the P-switch survival sections are some of my favorite things from this hack! They're all designed around the same concept yet they're always so creative, and satisfying to watch! I also love the item usage in it, they look as cool as they look terrifying lol
It seems like the difficulty definitely takes a big jump later on, but that's also when it seems like the hack had the most freedom to go all out in its concept. Much like in Geometry Dash, the Demon levels have the best music sync lol

We all knew where this was going lol
It's super neat to see you actually implemented a Practice Mode into the hack! This really shows all the effort that went into this!
And i'm glad you did lol, from the looks of these levels, the practice will really come in handy lol

As a former Geometry Dash player, this is definitely a must play!

Wow this looks fantastic!! Definitely checking this one out :)
Never played Geometry Dash myself, but I'm excited to see you steeping up your aesthetics game a notch.
Now I'm hoping for some custom graphics / backgrounds in Kruela 3...

Hmm what could it be? Is it the mid air jump powerup? Wait no, I see it, it's non-injective level paths. WDYM it's the music sync, that's too obvious.
I was really impressed in particular with the expansive layout of these levels - it would have been acceptable to make these left-to-right or right-to-left stages, maybe with the occasional vertical scrolling, but the way you took the player in all sort of directions throughout seemingly giant levels, often returning through sections already traversed, was unbelievably cool to see. This was definitely a blast to watch the full way through, nice work.
I don't even know what to say about it except that it puts a big smile on my face. Really cool stuff. The music is really a banger and the level design is also awesome. #w{<3}
Happy to see this project go from abandoned to amazing. The practice mode is a great idea and certainly makes the hack a bit less daunting to tackle RTA. I'm excited to give this one a shot some time!
This looks pretty interesting. It brings back memories of a level I made for my old hack (a level I called Volcanic Panic), though instead of autowalk, I used autorun to speed up the pace a bit (plus I disabled spin jumping).

just curious, but does touching a wall kill you here?

None of the level themes are really inspired by Geometry Dash levels; it's more that I took lots of setup inspirations from there. Most level themes just came about while I listened to the music and asked myself "what kind of level would this fit to?" (and sometimes, my interpretation of the music differed vastly from the source material, but that's a different story lol).

Maybe, but don't get your hopes up too high (and first, I have to actually build any puzzles for that lol)

Running into a wall will kill Mario, yes. (However, getting "boosted" by a wall, i.e. touching a wall that you're moving away from won't kill you).
