Gambol 2 - Kaizo hack update and release window

Super Mario WorldKaizo/PitWork in ProgressScreenshots

Wadddup!

Just wanted to spend this C3 giving some updates on my second work in progress low intermediate kaizo hack: Gambol 2.

Been in the making for around a year now, and i'm happy to announce that we are very much at the final stretch of development. We all know that last 10% makes up 90% of the project and that's what i'm currently grinding through. It sits at 16 exits and ALL LEVELS are considered complete. At the moment i'm finishing off some overworld stuff, and got plenty of little bits and pieces i want to polish off before finishing up with the overworld events. Then i'll be over to testing for any final amendments and changes.

The sequel is still going to be low intermediate - and would even currently say, most of the hack might be easier then the first, because i'm aiming for a smooth, enjoyable for all skill levels - fun experience.

Enjoy some screenshots of various levels - some of which i'm very proud of! Would love to show more but still want to keep some of it a suprise.

These gif is a little older but heres some overworld work. Took this opportunity to learn more about animation etc.

Anyway - don't want to show everything to save some stuff for those that are keen to play. Progress has been a little slow again lately due to getting a little burned out but i'm pretty certain we're a few weeks away.

So officially making a tentative release window of...

Late march/early april!

Looking forward to releasing this and truly hope a bunch of you will enjoy.

I really enjoyed palying Gambol and looking forward to play this one too, keep up the good work! Btw I love this graphics and design style type! Also the difficulty is on point for me! GG
Thanks guys!

Realised i hadn't added the image of the desert overworld (now added the original post) - wasn't super confident on overworld stuff so i'm fairly happy how it's come out so far.
This is one of the most beautiful hacks i've ever seen. All of the graphics come together to make a one-of-a-kind hack. I previously thought HDMA was the best way to make a level look better, but I guess I was wrong.

Amazing job, Jitzu, hopefully this will go down as one of the best romhacks of all time!
Ok, now this is exciting!
I loved playing the original Gambol. As i was attempting to get into an Intermediate kaizo hack, i was pleased to find a welcoming difficulty that made the hack feel achievable. It was a really fun time, and was satisfying to beat! (Especially the secret shell level)

And looking at this, i just love what's being shown here! The aesthetics are still top notch, your usage of palettes is incredible! It makes the levels very pleasing to look at, while still having different elements stand out from each other. Levels are also built in a way that makes them very detail rich, and feel very lively! The overworlds are also very well made, and i love the little decorations and animations in them haha

I'm glad to see this will also be a welcoming Intermediate hack, the first Gambol allowed for an incredibly fun and smooth experience, and gives me high hopes for the sequel, which is already looking great from what these gifs show! The integration of custom resources seems much more prominent in this hack, and their usage seems to be well incorporated into the design. I'm definitely looking forward to playing with some of these!

PS: I can't take the Thwomps seriously with those wide open eyes lol

The platforming looks super smooth and the visuals are so pleasing :) Gambol's been on my backlog for a bit but I need to push it up to get ready for this release!

Glad to hear you enjoyed the first hack ECS! I recognize your name straight away regarding your Gambol review - your thoughts were very detailed and much appreciated. The first hack was a huge learning experience, and i hope to improve on any faults and strive to make this an even smoother experience. As you said, i've gone for spinkles of chocolate mechanics this time around - and hopfully the Jez stamp of colour palettes and a dash of custom gfx. Thanks for all the kind words and look forward to you playing!

It fills me with joy to hear such a nice reaction to my review haha
I know that behind every hack there is a lot of work and effort from its creator(s), and i try to reflect that in my reviews by putting into words my playing experience with it, making it clear that all the work into the hack is appreciated from me as a player, as well as pointing out any rough bumps as a way to hopefully help improving future or current creations.
I will definitely keep an eye out for when this gets released! Keep up the great work!

Damn it Jez. This all looks so fantastic #w{<3} With you you will simply be pampered across the board. Visually always a pleasure - very beautiful, harmonious pastel palettes and always nice little optical details that round off the overall picture. What I also think is cool is that you often rely on simple structures in the BG. This just fits perfectly into the overall picture and draws the focus to the beautiful details in the FG. In terms of gameplay, it's simply the epitome of "Feel-good-Kaizo" in my opinion. Everything looks very flowy, bouncy and interesting. It's really crazy that the release will soon be in the starting blocks. This will definitely be a big highlight, I'm really looking forward to it.
Btw, nice that you made the bones in your Prehistoric/Stone tileset even less shiny, like I suggested at some point #w{xD} #w{<3}
Jez, first of all I would like to thank you for all the hard work and the amazing hack that is Gambol. I can't tell you how excited I am for Gambol 2. The screenshots look amazing, and I know how much care and attention to detail you are putting into it in order to make it fun, fair, and accessible. Thank you!
Gambooooooooooool! :O

As others have mentioned, this looks beautiful from what you've shared and the platforming looks fun and accessible. This will surely be one of the most memorable kaizo releases this year. Great work Jez #w{=3}
